I love to make creative things. Today again was memorable touch to the nature of Guadeloupe. We made hats from leaf of palm. It was so relaxing.

Culture heritage is a vibrant testimony of our history, traditions and evolution. It must be preserved and promoted, by raising also awareness about its significance among the population.

Guadeloupe is rich with incredible cultural and historical values.

Coconut leaf weaving

Today i learned about the numerous expressions of traditional craftsmanship by the coconut leaf weaving. While many of these traditional objects are only intended to be used for a short time, these leaf weaving objects for example are meant to last for long term periods. I was astonished that such objects may become heirloom that are passed from generation to generation. So the traditional craftsmanship is perhaps the most tangible manifestation of intangible cultural heritage. How exciting!

We saw Jordan on our first evening when we visited Point de Chateaux. There were all sorts of homemade things under a small hut and Jordan sitting next to it, weaving a hat. So far so well known, so far so touristy, we thought. And yes, Jordan does its work mainly for tourists, as a significant proportion of all Guadeloup residents work in the tourism sector. But Jordan doesn't just sell any knickknacks to tourists, what Jordan does is art, is culture.
