The Tsunami swept debris and carried it. Most of the fires were caused by explosions in oil refineries due to the destructive earthquake however some were causes because of the contents that had been swept away, fires were caused as shown in the image.

The Japanese built a wall to try and prevent from tsunamis but this tsunami was 10m high, and as you can see in the picture was bigger than the wall and once it was over the wall the water didnt stop for 10 kilometres.
