Counseling Psychologists evaluate their patients current situations and problems and offer advice. They do not usually work with mental health disorders, their patients usually talk to them about relationships, career, and other problems. They help the patient make life changes and  often recommend behavior modification strategies. Their salaries are usually around $72,540 depending on their work area, which can push the salary up and down. I think I'd be a perfect fit for this job because I love helping people in any way I can. I will need a bachelor's degree for the fundamentals of psychology, which can take up to 4 or 5 years. For me to actually start my career, however, advanced degrees are necessary. Some programs require applicants to have a Master's or Doctoral degrees in counseling psychology. All of this can take up to 6 years to complete unless I want to have degrees in other levels on psychology. I will have to have to complete a year internship as part as my doctoral study in my are. My plans are to either go to UNCG, UNCW, and WSSU. I mostly like WSSU because I would like to go to a HBCU and it's location.The biggest thing I like about Wilmington is how they let the student work with the faculty as junior colleagues to investigate a variety of topics and I know i will need all the help I can get. At Greensboro they have different labs and clubs their for you to do your work. I also know more people at UNCG so I know I could have a little extra help there.
