All her research is useless if no-one knows about it.

Origin: most (though not all) contemporary female scientists I've seen have short hair and dress semi-professionally. She relatively closely resembles a researcher who gave a presentation about neutron star mergers at usyd science forum, which was slightly mindblowing. The reason why she's presenting is that this is really the crux of scientific work - great work is meaningless if it has no impact in the real world.

His confidence can be seen in his posture and smile.

Conclusion: While he doesn't look like the most safety orientated scientist around, I felt like he makes up for this with his confidence and passion. The bottom half was supposed to represent his lab space where he is conducting an experiment of a frog and behind him a shelf of eyeballs and certificates.

Origin: My drawing I would mostly attribute its origins to media. The hair, glasses and lab coat are all stereotypical science types. As the frog experiment is popular in American teen movies/tv where they dissect a frog.

Conclusion: I think my picture slightly resembles Einstein, however portrays a collective image of stereotypical science elements (university degree, lab coat, glasses, experiments, test tubes, equations and so on).

Permission: you can use my image for your assignment.

Background: I'm a female in my 20s. I'm in my third year of a Bachelor of Arts with a Bachelor of Primary Education.

Description: my scientist is probably in her lab doing an experiment. I picture her beaker being full of a bright green chemical that melts everything it touches.

Origin: my scientist is a mixture of the stereotypical scientist drawing I would draw to win pictionary + a close friend who is a high school science teacher.

Conclusion: I think that science is probably a lot more than beakers and chemicals. Thinking about it, I'm not even sure that lab coats are always worn. From my experience in primary schools, science is very broad and involves nature, data exploration, technology etc.

He is wearing protective gear - lab coat, goggles. On the right is a beaker which is reacting (bubbling).

Origin: This drawing represents my personal experience during Biology and Science lessons in high school where many fascinating discoveries were made through the use of a microscope. It also depicts all famous scientists who at one stage, have used the microscope.

Conclusion: Although this drawing is very unsophisticated, I believe the smile of the scientist represents the key value of science; the joys of discovering what was once invisible to the naked eye and learning more about everything.

He is in the process of trying to solve a problem, and he is using the tools of his profession (e.g. a magnifying glass) to help him solve it. The lightbulbs represent ideas he is having that might be the solution to his question. He is wearing a suit which is quite professions and glasses which are rather stereotypical.

Origin: When I was drawing my image a lot of things came into play. It doesn't recognise the women in science or the multiple fields of science. For me this image was challenged very early in my study of science as most of my science teachers were female, and were interested in fields beyond chemistry. I drew this as it is important to acknowledge and challenge misconceptions.

I love swimming, I pretty much train every day. My passion for science is average I guess, I find some things quite interesting and others not. I think a lot of it comes from how it's presented.

Description: This is my scientist. The images drawn from the various areas of science resemble his love and passion for science. He is also quite stereotypical based on his features e.g. crazy hair and glasses.

Origin: My drawing depicts a scientist who holds a large knowledge base of science and scientific concepts that can be easily shared. Any question about science you ask he can probably answer. He is a great role model for anyone studying education as they will need to be able to hold similar scientific interests and knowledge.

Conclusion: I believe my drawing resembles stereotypical scientists depicted in movies and books, and real life (Albert Einstein with the crazy hair). Stereotypes shouldn't be held as there is great variety in the scientific community today. However, the large areas of interests my character holds is something to strive for.
