Example: “It’s more than just the way Maxwell resembles him, Grim says that night in the kitchen, the boy is like him, we’d better watch out, you never know what he might do while we are sleeping” (pg.3).
Explanation: This is an unexpected comment two grandparents would say about their own grandson. It appears they are scared of Max, or at the very least do not trust him. They focus on the fact that Max is really getting to look like his father, and perhaps he is also acting like him, too. I wonder if their feelings about Max are valid and true or it is just paranoia.

I also think that more people should be kind to not just disabled people but everyone. The fact that an author thought of making the big and large character kind to a small and frail child is something I have never read before.

This contradicts the norm because you normally don' t see people with size problems and can have temper issues. I also noticed how Kevin and Max became friends so fast. This is also a contrast and contradiction because normally it takes an average person a day or two to really become friends for now. I wonder how it will go down when the summer ends, and they have t go to school.

Example: On page eight, when freak (Kevin) said "I said identify yourself, earthling, or suffer the consequences" (8)
Explanation: This quote above is contrast and contradiction because it is not customary for people to say the word "earthling" to one another. To back up the explanation even the character- Maxwell- even mentions- "It comes to me that he is right, I am an earthling, we're all of us earthlings, but we don't call each other earthling. No need."- this quote even shows that Maxwell does not think it is customary. The quote freak (Kevin) said proves that he is a contrast to a 'normal' kid.

EXAMPLE:
On page 25 the author wrote, "Hey, Gwen leave the guy alone, huh? You're going spastic!"
EXPLANATION:
I find this extremely odd because normally kids do not say this to their parents. I cannot believe that a child is calling their mom by their first name and telling them what to do. In normal society a kid would get in huge trouble for that but "Freak" [Kevin] always call his mom Gwen so that is a major contrast and contradiction.

And the really weird thing is, I'm happy."
EXPLAIN: Well this contradicts Max's personality because in the book, it states that Max literally, never laughs or smiles. In this passage it explains him, and how happy he is when he is with Kevin. In fact, so happy that he is crying. This shows how Max is a round character and does have change. I still haven't really figured out Kevin's change, but I really do think that it is coming soon. I also have realized a plot twist already. I wonder how this will affect the story?
CHAPTERS 4-6

Although Max is a different kid, he is starting to be more of a trouble maker than a helper. If Max were to be more truthful then he may earn more trust between himself and others. Again this is a Contrast and Contradiction because Kevin has no trust issues that we are aware of, yet Max does. I am also very surprised with Max's insecurity, and the way he thinks of him

I understand this much, even i i still don't understand about bionics or what it means to be a human robot" (page 52)
Explanation: This is a aha moment because Max has figured out one reason why Freak [Kevin] has been so into robots and knights. He has realized that Freak will basically become a knight/robot. This aha moment is important to the story because it will probably effect the character's feelings toward each other.

You can think your way out of anything, even pain."
EXPLANATION:
This is really good advice because if you want to do something you should do it despite the pain. Kevin is saying to persevere and any feeling of pain can just go away. Now Max knows that Kevin is determined to become the first "Human Robot". This is also a contrast and contradiction because Kevin is young so normally Words of the Wiser are spoken by older and more experienced people. I think that it is also kind of cool for a kid to be that determined for something that they make extreme profound statements.

Example- "....I am the light, and don't you forget it." (page 118)
Explanation- This is a contrast and contradiction because most people do not walk around and say to people that they are holy, or have a major impact/importance on everyone. This quote will either encourage Max's thoughts of trying to run away, or what he thinks of his father.

Example:
On page 126 Loretta Lee says, "Keeping your own kid tied up, it ain't right. He ain't the man I thought I remembered, thats for sure."
Explanation:
This is an aha moment because you realize that Loretta is not a bad person. She does not think what Max's father is doing is right. I was surprised because I thought Loretta and Iggy were mean and evil people but all along they were going to help Max so he would not suffer. This is an extreme change to the plot line.

EXAMPLE: on page 142... "...It means that if you want to, you can remember anything, whether it happened or not."
EXPLAIN: This is a quote from Kevin who was talking to Max during the time when he was walking home on he last day of school. I think that this is a Words of the Wiser because of how in depth this is. Kevin's mind is just full of great quotes and really is just so powerful. Even though Kevin is younger than Max, his brain just runs crazy like a cheetah on the Savannah.

Example- "It means that if you want to, you can remember anything, whether it happened or not." (142)
Explanation- This quote is a words of the wiser because Freak tells Max that if you really put your mind to it you can really do anything. This quote shows how Freak has learned this throughout the story.
