The workforce was made up mostly of young and middle age men, which also happened to be the ones drafted in WWII. The only people around that could do the jobs that needed to be done were the women.
I picked this poster because I have always been so inspired by women during WWII.

"Battle Stations!"
This poster is meant to drive more men to work and help. This persuasive poster shows that everybody’s help was needed. There are only men in this poster because women didn’t work very much then and, the war materials were not going to make themself so targeting men may have worked better. Encouragement and persuasion 100% I also believe they are trying to guilt-trip you in a way so you feel more obligated to work. Victories cant happen if there are no materials, so stating that factory victories will make the workers feel more obligated and willing to work.

(Fisher Body Division, General Motors Corporation, 1942

Poster, 164393.03, 31" x 41" 90-460.

Gift of Fisher Body Division, General Motors Corporation.)

Since men of this age had made up a very large percentage of the workforce, governments and corporations alike were in desperate need of more workers to keep up with the production of essential war materials such as machinery pieces, guns, and other supplies like food and blankets. Women were being asked to join the workforce out of necessity, but this propaganda poster does an excellent job of demonstrating how this effort was presented to women. This message was a clever advertising strategy because it appealed to a common emotion experienced by its target demographic. Women were scared, lonely, and unsure of the future, and working war jobs would help them to both occupy their minds and contribute to the war effort.

The Manpower Commission’s motives for creating this message were to encourage more women to join the workforce, specifically the sector of the workforce responsible for producing materials for the war. The commission might have personally benefited from the audience’s acceptance of the message by increasing their own profit and also overall rates of wartime production, which would have been beneficial to several parties, including the audience and soldiers fighting abroad.

Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Company, for example, encouraged women to participate fully in production."

When I came across this poster I chose it right away because it is such a well known poster. Yet I've never took the time to analyze it, or really look at it. So I'm sure some other people haven't either, which is why I thought it was a great one to do. The poster is meant to empower women, to encourage them to work. This is persuasion because not many women worked at this time, and the purpose of the poster is to get more women in the work force, it is encouragement. They picked a great image for the poster, a very strong, and independent woman. That can do everything that a man can do. Getting in there and being a full fledged member of society.

This poster was done by James Montgomery, back in 1940. The reason I think it is persuasion is because the government paid this guy to create posters for recruiting men into the war. This poster made them feel obligated or special which was really affect and made them enlist. They did this easily because of the countries color's in the poster and directness of it. The reason I chose this poster was because we looked at it in last years history class and the teacher informed us of how effective and important it was.
