The Bolshevik Revolution was the second stage of the Russian Revolution (1917). Vladimir Lenin seized power and established a Communist State. This sparked a little Communist party in the US.
There was a period of anticommunism called the big red scare. Those suspected were deported by the "Palmer Raids" of Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmer. 
A number of legislatures passed criminal syndicalism laws that outlawed the advocacy of violence to secure social change. 
Businesses used this to break underdeveloped unions. To defeat unionism the American Plan campaign was created by employers. Managers wanted to strengthen their relationships with workers and offer benefits. 
Cases reflected Anti-redism and antiforeignism. Sacco and Vanzetti were convicted 1921 for the murder of a paymaster and security guard. Judges and the jury were prejudiced against them because they were Italian.
