Many diseases included leprosy and cholera, and there were few hospitals to go to be cured. 
2. Since technology in the Middle Ages were still not advanced they tried cures of "bloodletting", but it led to more unhealthy conditions.
3. People who had severe illnesses had to be isolated in another place. Some towns even passed laws to keep out people with the illness.

Towns were dirty; there were no running water so they had to take public baths and used chamber pots since toilets were not invented. People emptied these and threw out garbage  in steams and canals and even on the streets. Because of these unhygienic problems, the towns smelled unpleasant and diseases were easily spread
