Similar to a children's book with it's upbeat rhythm however, the vocabulary is targeted more towards adults. It adds to the tone by accentuating the results of telling the truth at once. She also uses personification to describe the truth, in the last lines Dickinson wrote, "the truth must dazzle gradually or every man be blind." Dickinson starts off the poem saying, "tell all the truth but tell it slant," slant means to say it indirectly. This line means to tell the person the truth but don't tell too much or they won't be able to grasp it. The next two lines say, "Too bright for our infirm Delight," mean that the truth is too heavy for us to understand it all at once so we should tell it slowly.
