As the mother of a child diagnosed with a Social anxiety disorder such as Self selected mute, i worry. I worry that my child will not be able to make friends, true friends. I worry that she will experience anxiety her whole life, and not know how peace feels like.I worry that she may not find love, romantic or self love. I worry that the society in which we live today will make it even more harder for her to develop confidence.Although i worry daily about my baby, i also try my hardest to connect with her. I always try to make her smile, that smile that brightens my whole world.I am thankful that she is here and i am hopeful that the group therapy will help and i will have my sweet girl be able to tell me that she loves me.

Being a middle class family, we do not qualify for free services, some are covered partly by insurance but not entirely. In my free time i seek free services that can benefit Calliope. For example this summer i am planning a trip to a SMart Center in Philadelphia. This event is free and from the Selective Mutism, Anxiety, and Related Disorders Treatment Center. I will be provided free stay at a nearby location that is secure and approved by this organization. The financial burden of a disorder can affect a family greatly but there are resources and a lot of organizations willing to help our community.
