As well as the fact that Bruno felt happy, and thought of Shmuel as one of his best friends, like Karl, Daniel and Martin, and he was also having fun for the first time since arriving at Out With. Although they have differences like different childhood backgrounds and are on a different side of the fence, they do not fight over it or make a really bid deal out of it, showing how much they both wanted to be friends with each other by putting aside their differences and avoiding a fight.

Bruno and Shmuel would eventually become friends as they have similarities like the same birthdays and the same age
The only contrast is that Shmuel experienced more troubles and hardships in his life while Bruno didn't experience a lot of troubles in his life but he thinks that he was the one who experience a lot of difficulties in life
They came to 'out with' despite their will and are left alone with no one to talk to. Shmuel didn't like the fence that he is living in and Bruno didn't like the house he is living in they both wanted to get out of their original place and see the place in front of them. I don't know whether that this is a similarity or a difference but I think that it is a similarity
Bruno is alone and have no one to talk to so he would eventually try to make friends with Shmuel and this can be proofed in the passage where Bruno asks Shmuel whether he has friends or close friends in order to strengthen the relationship between them and Shmuel would also try to talk to bruno because he had no one to talk to
