I believe that it is important to integrate some sort of digital media in our curriculum. The American Pediatric Association says that kids shouldn't get more than an hour of screen time a day. Who knows how much they are getting at home?! Our society is becoming very digital and we should be a big part of it, but the question is, how much IS appropriate? I don't think we'll know what all of this is doing to our kids for quite awhile...

I jumped into Chromebook use a year ago and then backed off last year. I'm ready to delve in depth again. There are so many resources that it seems unreasonable to neglect to use this tool. I don't compare academic screen time to play screen time. As long as we are using the devices as a productivity tool and not for games that are more distracting than educational. I do think there needs to be time for both activities. So far, research continues to support a handwriting component to cement immediated learning into long term learning.

Integrating technology and digital media into curriculums is especially important to SDC teachers because our students often require accommodations and differentiation in order to access curriculum. Digital media and other forms of technology can be extremely useful as tools to provide these students with equitable access to learning.

I think it is important to use a blog to communicate with parents and students. Digital warm ups and etools help to prepare students better for SBAC testing. Students enjoy when I integrate entertaining math videos from mathsnacks.com and youtube. These videos are high interest and help students to remember important math concepts.
