This chapter by Paz and Edwards goes over the misconception that only geniuses can be good at writing, and how this misconception is not helpful for new writers. The chapter expands upon the struggles that new writers face, including the fact that they fear producing unoriginal work. Different sources are used to show the accuracy of this misconception, and how it is still detrimental to student writers trying to better their writing skills. It also gives examples of how people have faced this problem, and how they overcame it. Paz and Edwards are extremely educated on this topic, and it shows in this chapter of “Bad Ideas About Writing.”

"Plagiarism" is used 9 times
"Genius" is used 25 times
"Originality" is used 8 times
