Sourav Dey was born in Midland, MI. He moved to many places like Kentucky and Korea but in college he moved to Boston, Massachusetts. There he met his wife Pallabi Sanyal. They got married after college and moved to San Diego, CA in June 2008. They took a plane and it took 6 hours. Why did they move? Sourav didn't want to live in the east coast anymore. He chose California because there's good technology there and Pallabi could do her medical residency program at a hospital. He also liked that there were many national park and hikes close by. Very outdoorsy state! At first, Sourav HATED his job. Pallabi was always at work so he was always lonely. He had no friends. For Pallabi, it was a big transition from the east coast because she was far from where her parents live. To this day they still live in the house where she grew up. 2 years later, Sourav got a new job. Both parents said they felt like they belonged in CA in one year. Sourav feels like his identity and interests are represented BIG Time in California! Pallabi feels like San Francisco is not as diverse as Boston and feels there are fewer Indians here in SF. Sourav felt used to that because he has a similar experience in MI.

Zac Appleton was born in San Francisco, CA at this very address! When he was 3, he had to move somewhere else then traveled around to SO MANY places! Examples are Mexico and Prague. He went to college and moved back permanently into San Francisco in 2001. He struggled trying to find a good job. He needed to start a career. He found a job at the EPA and then he got the 111 Faith Street house again from his parents, Cleo and Rich Appleton. He felt welcomed by family and friends. It took 2-5 years for San Francisco to feel like home. He feels represented more in CA than in other states in the mainland US. His daughter, Izzy Appleton, also lives to this day in 111 Faith Street. The house is over 120 years old.

It took 18 years for him to get citizenship in the US. He was lonely at first, had a new job, and missed his family. He felt welcomed in California because his work colleagues became his friends. He really felt like he belonged in California once he met his wife, Sheila Warren, about 4-5 years after he arrived.

Fred Araujo was the first person in his family to come to California. He came to CA in 2003 because he was invited to work there. When he immigrated, some of the challenges were learning the language and adjusting to the culture. When Fred was younger, his dad told him to learn English but it was hard so he quit. Then when he moved to CA he had to learn English all over again! It took him a year to prepare to immigrate. Fred felt welcomed in California by the people at work. He also came to California with his wife. It took a year before he felt like he completely belonged in California. He feels really respected in CA now.
