The political cartoon above illustrates Justin Trudeau and a man in a room. Both men in suits, with Justin Trudeau wearing a red tie and the other man wearing a blue one. The man with the blue tie is holding a piece of paper with the words “ENERGY POLITICS”. There are two speech bubbles in this cartoon, each man having one for themselves. The man with the blue tie saying “WE NEED TO RESOLVE THIS LIKE ADULTS!”, Justin Trudeau replying with “DO YOU KNOW ANY” while sticking his tongue out. This political cartoon is commenting on Justin Trudeau’s ability to complete his role as prime minister of Canada. The cartoonist is criticizing Justin Trudeau and how his premiership has gone. The man in the blue tie could be representing Justin Trudeau’s cabinet and political party, as they are in the most power in Canadian parliament and have to deal with issues head on. A comparison is made between Justin Trudeau and childish tendencies as when told to deal with the situation as adults, he replies with “Do we have any?”, while sticking his tongue out, suggesting that there aren’t any adults in his political party. Many people view Justin Trudeau as a candidate that got into office due to his father’s previous premiership and just inherited everything like a spoiled child. This comments on how people view Justin Trudeau as someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing and expects everything to be handed to them and done for them and how he is just a child in parliament. It represents this concept perfectly, showing Justin Trudeau’s reaction to “adult things” in a childish way, with a sulking tone and bold gesture.

The political cartoon illustrates Donald Trump holding a rocket launcher that has “trade war” written on it. It could be interpreted that he is attempting to fire it at China because of the text bubble above him but instead of it firing at China the rocket launcher has backfired and hit the man behind him wearing the American flag on his suit. The overall message of this cartoon is that Donald Trump starting a trade war with China is only going to end up backfiring on him and hurt America. The cartoonist’s perspective of this is that they are criticizing Trump for starting this trade war that will only end up impacting America in a negative way and not China. The man standing behind Trump could be representing America and how Trump's actions are pointing a gun at America and blowing it up. The reason why this is backfiring on Trump is because many consumer items and things are all made in China. If he starts a trade war with China he would have to find a different country to outsource resources and consumer items and it might not be as cheap as China.

Free trade is the movement of goods and services between two or more countries without any limits. Although free trade and globalization have various benefits, such as the rise of GDP in countries. It does negatively impact society and our environment. A negative aspect of free trade is presented in the source. We can see people going into a machine labeled, “the free trade and globalization machine.” We can conclude that the people who are going into the machine are cheap workers from less-developed countries. We see a man controlling the machine, stating full speed ahead, we can infer that this is a developed country. This source depicts the negative consequences of free trade due to the source. The consequences of free trade and globalization include the disappearance of natural resources, environmental destruction, and consumer junk, which in results causes pollution and CO2 emissions.

The cartoonist has a critical perspective towards transnational corporations as shown through the tired workers who seem to be making shoes for the Nike company in poor working conditions. The Nike stickers on their mouths that prevent them from speaking symbolizes that TRCs don't listen to the complaints of workers but rather exploit countries in developing countries in order to make high profits.

This cartoon is ironic because the WTO advocates for free trade and cutting barriers between countries so exports and imports flow more easily. The turtle that represents the WTO while there is a young individual riding on his back with a container indicating he may be poor. Instead the turtle goes the wrong way making it ironic since the WTO does not favour developing countries.
