The Apalachee Indians  farmed and lived in the Panhandle. 

The soil was great for growing crops.

The men hunted for animals. Their villages featured tall mound's and they played a game called Apalachee  ball. 

Apalachee means "old fields "or "old town".  

In the 1900's Americans started to buy cars. Land developers realized better roads and highways 

would make it easier for people with cars to travel to Florida. Carl Fisher built a highway that linked 

Florida to other states in the Midwest. The highway was called the Dixie Highway. The Dixie 

Highway brought millions of people and tourists to Florida.

In July, Colombian Americans celebrate their culture at the Fiesta of five flags in Pensacola, Florida. The people celebrate the five flags that have flown over the city. They are Spanish, British ,French, Confederate, and United States Flags.

People come to get away from war and the cold tempature in thier country.

Jacksonville is one of the largest cities in Florida with the largest population growth in Florida between 1920-1930.Naval ships were built in Jacksonville. Railroads were built between Jacksonville and Tallehasse.

The capital of Florida is Tallahassee. the capital of florida is one of the 4 sky skraper capital buildings. the old and new capital buildings stand next to each other in Florida. 

The Gulf of Mexico is a beautiful place to go swimming. The Gulf of Mexico depends on the health of the ecosystem.

President John F, Kennedy announce in1961 plans to send Americans to the moon. Apollo 11 spaceship took off from the Kennedy Space Center. Millions of tourist go each year

There are three national forests in Florida. They are Ocala, Osceola and Apalachicola. The Apalachicola is one of the last remaining large areas of swamp land and pine forest's.

Oranges are a big industry in Florida. Florida is know for the orange growing, Early  season are harvested from October to January.

Flagler built a mansion in Palm Beach called Whitehall. Today it is a museum and tourist attraction. One of the famous hotel in Palm Beach  is The Breakers Hotel.

Is a mineral found in Florida. The sands in Florida is a mixed of quartz, coral and shells.

Some of the rivers in Florida are very deep. The major river in Florida is the St. Johns river. The river runs North and South. The longest river sailboat race in the world is held in Florida.

St Augustine is one the most historic cities in Florida. 

There are lots of churches and it has a School for Deaf and Blind people.

At Castillo de San Marcos National Monument you can see actors who dress and act as those at the fort did many years ago.

Florida is the state with the most tourist attractions.

Millions of people come to Florida each year. They come to  enjoy the white sandy beaches and the ocean blue waters.

Volusia County is where the famous Daytona Beach is located. It is also home of the Daytona 500. In Volusia County there is something called bike week. It is were a bunch of bikers come and park there bikes on the side of the street and walk around. 

Is a historical city in Tampa. It was founded in the 1880's. The nickname for Ybor City is Florida Latin Quarter.

Florida has  lots of Zoo's. They even have petting zoo's.  The Orlando area has a zoo called the Central Florida Zoo in Sanford.

Walt Disney World is a major tourist attraction. Lots of people come to visit and see Mickey Mouse, go on rides, and see shows.

The Union was the North side in the Civil War. They had the regular United States flag. The states in the Union did not want slavery. They won the war against the Confederate Army in the Civil War.

Many kinds of plants and wildlife live in shallow water of a wetland.  The most famous wetland in Florida is the Everglades. The Everglades is a mix of salt water and fresh water. Many kinds of Plants, reptiles, birds,bugs, sea creatures ,an other aquatic animals.

beaches are what attract most tourists to Florida. Florida has more then 1,000 miles or beaches and 2 national sea shores. The state shell is called the Florida Horse Conch.
