The officer thought that Justyce was just like them and was looking for a girl to prey on. This directly impacts Justyce because even though that is the complete opposite of that he was attempting to do, it was difficult to convince the author otherwise.

Officer Castillo profiles Justyce when placing him under arrest. He uses stereotypes to excuse his brutality, stating that Justyce's "kind" is never up to any good. Officer Castillo might have these biases because he has a very narrow mindset. He probably grew up being told that certain people acted certain ways, and got comfortable with that mindset as he grew older. These biases dont allow Justyce to live his life as the successful child he is. He isn't able to have fun or do a good deed without being bombarded with accusations of maliciousness. He isn't able to simply live his life without being threatened and hurt.

Officer Castillo has very obvious biases against Justyce, that being not only his clothing but also his racist bias against him because of his skin color. Officer Castillo might have this bias because of how his family brought him up, or because he is in the police force and those working with the police are more commonly than not racist. These biases affect Justyce because the officer deemed him untrustable enough to keep him in handcuffs for a couple hours before being spoken to by a lawyer. Had Justyce been white instead, Officer Castillo wouldn't have even bothered him. - Gabrielle Silva-Huerta

Officer Castillo assumes Justyce is doing something bad because he looked "suspicious" with his hood on, and basically judged Justyce because he's black and automatically assumed he was doing something bad. This means the officer has a bias against black people, especially since he thought Justyce was trying to hurt the Melo (whom he assumed was a white girl) and didn't listen to when Melo's parents showed up and explained what was really happening. Castillo's bias affects Justyce because it showed him that even if you're trying to do the right thing, as long as someone has a bias against you, they will assume that you are up to no good.
