After “The Incident,” Justyce writes letters to Martin (Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.) to make sense of his feelings. He discusses what happened to Shemar Carson in Nevada and realizes that his good character does not make him “exempt from the stuff THOSE black guys deal with” (12). How has “The Incident” changed the way Justyce thinks about his life/about society?

Officer Castillo saw that he was wearing his hood up and was a black male. Castillo acted the way he did because since Justyce was alone with a white girl, he suspected he was trying to do her harm. This impacts Justyce because he was doing the opposite of what the officer thought he was doing, and he was judged just by his skin color..

The biases that the officer has are that Justyce is almost a grown man and he can be misunderstood as he is trying to help his drunk ex, Melo. So it can be looked at as if he were trying to do something to her or take advantage, which might explain why the officer reacted in that way

Justyce thinks that maybe things aren't as equal as people say they are. He also thinks that maybe he's no different from the guys that looks like "thugs" if cops are treating him the same way as them.

Officer Castillo biased against Jus was his "weird" choice of his clothing. He puts him in handcuffs without telling him what crime he committed and punches his face when Jus tries to talk. Jus was wearing a hood on and earbuds which the officer mistreated him. He biased against him because he seen him with other teens who were up to no good. This impacts Jus because even tho he was doing good and wasnt committing a crime, it will be difficult to convince the cop the true story/

The incident changed the way Justyce thinks about society by making him realize that people will discriminate against him no matter how good his character is.

The incident with the cop made Justyce see how society hasn't really changed and that some people still haven't seen the new ideas on other people, treating them for who they are and are instead keeping the same bias towards certain people, no matter if their looks or situation is different from threats.

The officer immediately jumped to the conclusion that Jus was up to no good because of his brutal initiative. Castillo may have these biases due to his experience in work(this doesn’t justify his action in the slightest). This changed Jus’s perspective on how he’s viewed due to the incident and allowed more freedom of mind.

Officer Castillo's bias nature stems from Justyce's skin color as he points out skin color by saying things such as "I know your kind" and "couldn't resist the pretty white girl" insinuating Justyce was kidnapping Melo.

Justyce is directly impacted by this discrimination as he is brutally assaulted by the police offer Castillo, to which he later further arrests Justyce with no reason behind it.

The situation made jus realize he will be discriminated against just because the color of his skin regardless of his character and how smart he is.

The incident changed the way Justyce thinks about society because no matter how good of a kid he is, he is still going to be discriminated based off his race. He compares himself to the other kid and notices the differences, yet the singular similarity that they're both black dictates how society views him.

The incident makes him realize that getting arrested has not only has to do with who u r as a person but mainly as how u look or come across as.

He might have this bias since Justice lives in a city where crime is prominent and Justyce might look like he was up to no good going by a girl in a car with his hood up. The bias might effect Justcye since this is his exigence, this made him start thinking about the injustices that black people face soley on their skin color

The bias the officer has against justyce is him being black. The reason he has this bias is because he was black in a rich neighborhood, so he thought he didnt belong there.

As said in the text it says that the cop saw a hooded figure and considered him suspicious so maybe that's why he thought that and also said that he was black.

Officer Castillo was prejudiced towards Justyce because of the color of his skin, judging the situation before he knows what really happened. He might have these biases because that was the social norm at the time, and he thinks all black people are criminals.

After “The Incident,” Justyce realizes that no matter who he is and what he does, racist biases will target him for the color of his skin. It changed the way he viewed his life as he thought he was above those biases police. He now acknowledges the issues with society and the unfair racial inequality.

officer castillo saw a figure carrying a woman into a car, which looked a bit suspicious. He also was probably racist against blacks, since he said "your kind" when beating Justyce.

the incident made justyce realize that no matter how hard he’s worked to be a good student/person, and even if he thinks he isn’t intimidating, he’s still going to get stereotyped and discriminated against.

Justyce realizes that his background and how “good” and educated he is not the first thing people see especially the cop. He realizes that he will constantly be discriminated wether he is a good person or not based off his appearance and skin tone.

After the incident Justyce writes about his emotions and how it is affecting him. He believes that not everyone has justice and he wants changes to happen because its unfair.

These biases cause Justyce to be arrested, physically beaten, and cursed out. So because he is black the officer doesn't value him as a person and sees him as less than.

The incident made Justyce open his eyes and experience police brutality with racism himself. He now knows that even if he looks respectable and wears nice clothes, you cannot stop racism. Justyce knows this because even though the police officer saw him trying to help Melo, he still experienced racism.

The incident changed the way Justyce thinks for the reason that he believed that black people were mistreated due to their appearance. However, him being a good student and having a formal appearance and still getting mistreated changed the way he viewed society. He now sees the true injustice people face.

Officer Castillo has biases against Justyce. He seen justyce wearing a black hoodie and earbuds and that made him look “Suspicious” and “mysterious”. The officer might have these biases since hes racist. The officer probably grew up in a rich environment to have those kinds of thoughts. This impacts justyce because if officers like Castillo have those views, they would get treated unfairly.

He thought that just because he didn't have the look for a gangbanger or dressed like one, he wasn't going to be racially profiled. This made him realize that no matter how he looks or dresses he will always be racially profiled

“The incident” changed the way that Justyce thinks about society in a very negative way because he now realizes the harsh truth of racism and racial stereotypes, he also realizes that although he doesn’t view himself as stereotypical, society might.

One bias Officer Castillo has against Justyce is finding him suspicious because of the color of his skin and the hoodie was wearing. He stereotypes him as someone looking to cause trouble and looking to harm Melo and this results in Justyce being wrongfully put in handcuffs.

The bias that Officer Castillo has against Justyce is that he's black. He sees someone that's black and immediately thinks that he's up to no good or that he's just a "Punk". This bias caused Justyce to be arrested, literally beaten up, and cussed out. So just because he's black, the officer doesn't treat him like a normal person but sees him as an outsider and not valued as anyone else would.

The incident changed Justyce perspective about society. Justyce sees society as a negative way because he believes that black people are being mistreated due to their appearance and putting stereotypes.
