3G Speech - Writing Task: Think of a student-related issue/problem in school. Write a speech, laying out the arguments to support the solution you think is best for this issue/problem. Your objective is to come up with a solution in the best interest of the students. You should arrive at the best arguments you can possibly think of. You must apply persuasive techniques (such as repetition, use of personal pronouns, use of emotive language, rule of three and rhetorical question) in your speech as well. by Esther J

Good morning everyone! I am Patrick Tan and I am your President of Student Council. Canteen food is usually convenient. However, is it really nutritious? I am talking to you today to address the nutritional value of the food and how it should be more affordable for students.

I believe that canteen food is not nutritious and does not have any nutritional value. I have observed that most of the food served is processed, and ready made, left to be thawed and cooked. Often, many of these processed foods contain additives that are harmful to your health. These may cause health complications in the long term.

I firmly believe that we should live a healthy lifestyle, and the first step doing so is to eat whole food such as fresh vegetables and fruit as well as protein such as chicken that is not frozen beforehand. For a start, we can start serving salads, which are brightly coloured and attractive. For example, we can start serving watermelon salad to incorporate fruit into students’ diets, which is a great kickstart to having a balanced diet. Through consuming fresh produce, students will be able to lead a healthier lifestyle by having more vitamins in their diet. Hence, this is essential for their health.

In conclusion, students can kickstart their journey to developing a healthy lifestyle in school, by eating healthily which can allow them to be healthier. Surely, I believe that “Health is wealth.” and that health is a worthy investment, to ensure healthy and happy lives for us. Thank you for your time.

Does it really let the students turn over a new leaf and not repeat the same mistake?

I believe that our schools discipline is not up to standard as many students dont take the discipline seriously.

I feel that our discipline has to be less lenient in dealing with mischievous boys as it seems that they dont listen.

In conclusion, i feel that our schools discipline has areas and room for improvement such as the way it deals with students in making sure they turn over a new leaf

Good morning fellow schoolmates! I am Aqmal/Ryan.I am here today to tell you about 1 secondary school problem that most,or all students face in school ranging from Secondary 1 to secondary 5.

The area of concern that we have is that the belongings of students is being stolen. This would also affect students as they would need to bring their heavy books around to avoid it being stolen. Students living far have to carry their books everywhere when they either head home or come to school. When books are stolen, the students have to buy the books again which costs about five dollars each.Buying new books would also be a waste of moneg for students under the FAS scheme.

Hence,we have a solution.Providing lockers outside every class gives students a sense of security when placing their books in school or class. This would prevent people to steal their books and hence, would also make the school a safer and more condusive place for students to study in. Providing lockers for students will also allow them to put them in the lockers so that it will be a weight off their bags and mind, they will not need to worry about books being stolen when books are put in the locker. Our primary school in fact, has lockers for the students to put the books in.Hence, this will prevent theft of books and lift a load of students mind and bags.

Thus, adding school lockers into our classes would very much benefit everyone involved and would help the students with the learning environment in school.

Good morning teachers and fellow classmates, i am Xuan hui. Many of you may have heard of the recent increase of food poisoning happening within our school compound. In today’s speech I will be addressing this problem and how we can go about to resolve this.

This issue is of great importance as it concerns the health of students. It is already bad enough that majority of students do not consume their breakfast, hence it is with seriousness that the canteen food be properly prepared with much precautions. If not properly prepared, the chances of students getting food poisoning would increase, this would lead to the students mistrust towards the canteen stalls which would also lead to a decrease in sale production. This may also ruin the schools reputation and cause a massive decrease in student enrolment.

Therefore, I would like to propose a solution for this problem. I propose that the principal give the stall owners a stern reminder to keep the place properly sanitised and ensure the ingredients they use are fresh and properly cooked. This is to reduce the chances of students contracting salmonella which would lead to food poisoning. However, if the stall owners refuse to change their style of preparation, students can bring this up to the higher management and report the issue to the National Health Agency (NHA) which would take stricter measures to ensure the quality of food.

In conclusion, I feel that our school as a whole should speak up regarding issues like these. All of us should practice sanitary measures ourselves so as to prevent issues like these in the future. I urge every one of you to join me in this movement, together. A little change goes a long way. Thank you for your kind attention.

Good morning, fellow students. Today, I will be giving a speech about how we can improve learning environments for students. What are some problems students have when learning in classrooms?

(SK) Students often find no motivation to study because of extensive school hours and the only break they get is either the 5-minute snack time or the 35-minute recess time. How can we resolve this issue? Firstly, we can give students a 5-minute mental break every 30 minutes. This can allow students to be less stressed and be more productive.

(YE) Secondly, we can implement computer lessons on certain days so that students would not be worn out by writing too much. Students can use laptops to research and submit homework. They will thus be more exposed to online learning tools such as Google Classroom and Google Drive. This can allow students to be more productive when learning.

In conclusion, by having mental breaks and implementing computer lessons, students can become more productive and will learn more effectively.

Good morning, classmates. I am Maegan and I am here to raise the issue of the involvement of performing arts CCAs in school.

"One band, one sound". That is the motto of St. Hilda's Wind Orchestra, otherwise known as Band. Those simple four words are a hint of how we continously strive to work together more harmoniously. As a member of this CCA, I have sometimes felt isolated and distant from members of other CCAs, namely those that are not performing arts. I feel strongly that I am not alone, therefore this needs to be addressed.

This issue is of great importance to me as all students should feel connected and involved within the school community. Performing arts CCAs should be able to say proudly that they are as appreciated and important as any other CCA. More often than not, those outside the performing arts CCAs don't see the time and effort put into each practice. Even when those CCAs are finally able to perform and show off their hardwork, there are those who blatantly call it "boring" or a "waste of time". This can seriously impact some students' self-esteem and make them feel embarrassed for their choice of CCA as well as tarnish the CCA's reputation unnecessarily.

Not only should we strengthen bonds within our CCAs, but continuously put in effort to recognise efforts across CCAs. I propose an "exchange programme" between CCAs where students can experience what a CCA session is like in another CCA. This can increase awareness and appreciation for what the other CCA goes through. Understanding each other's struggles as a CCA is important as understanding individual struggles. In the best case, the butterfly effect could occur and more positive relationships across CCAs could develop.

Is the food in the canteen up to par? There were experiences of poor quality food in this school. Therefore I would like to emphasise this problem of poor food quality in school which i feel is affecting everyone, and ways that it can be solved.

I am sure everyone has experienced at least once when the food served wasn't cooked properly,or that it doesn't taste up to expectations. For instance, the chicken in the chicken rice sold in school is known to be raw. This is a problem i want to address as this will negatively affect the health of students after eating poorly cooked food for a while.

For every problem, there is always a solution. The solution to this problem is that we can do weekly checks on the food used to make the students' meal to ensure that the food is cooked well.

Hence, I feel that the food quality served in school is a problem and can be solved by doing regular checks on the food.

Doesnt it feel hot and stuffy in classroom. Doesn't it feel annoying when you are distracted by the teachers shouting from the other class. Well fear no more cause I'm going to propose to have a conducive classroom for everyone by having an aircon for each classroom with sound proof walls.

I am proposing this because I have been hearing complaints from our schoolmates on how sweaty they are after pe and they have no aircon to cool them down in the classroom but instead they feel hot and stuffy. It seems like the entire school is facing the same issue and they are not able to concentrate during lesson time.moreover students are distracted by the teachers next door as they are sometimes loud when students can hear them from the next door. This causes them to be heavily distracted as they hear two voices during the lesson

We can rectify this issue by having aironditioned room with sound proof walls where they are not hot during lesson time and they can concentrate well during lesson time.

Good Morning Ms Esther and fellow classmates. I am Chloe Pek and I am here to address a few areas of concern that I have noticed within the school. The main issue I've decided to focus on are the lack of conducive study areas in school. Due to the lack of conducive study areas, many students lack motivation to study an often, seats at the libraries and cafés are unavailable. Therefore, I propose that our school has study areas located beside our activity centre. Today I will be covering the problems that students face and how we can effectively overcome this issue.

To start off, as a student, I find myself facing the issue of being unavailable to find conducive areas to study during the examination season. With the lack of conducive study areas in our school, I believe that many of you are anxious and uncomfortable to study in a public area or compared to studying in a familiar environment where there are friends and teachers to consult when confused.

With that, I propose that we have a study corner with both individual seats and benches for students to organise study sessions with their friends comfortably. Students can also feel more relaxed and focused without a distracing environment. This will also be a safe and an easily accessible space for everyone. For example, because of its strategic location, students can unwind and play some sports with their friends after studying productively. This will help to increase attention span and allow students to have a more flexible study routine after school.

In conclusion, I hope that you will consider my idea and gotten my point across of improving students' lack of study by creating more conducive study areas. I urge all of you to support me so that we can work together towards creating a more conducive environment for all of us. Thank you for listening so attentively.

Good afternoon Ms Esther and classmates, I am Peter Lee. “How many of us have trouble studying?” Studies have shown that the learning environment can affect ones learning progress, hence with a conducive learning environment, it will optimise their focus and learning capabilities. I would like to address this this problem and how our school can help these students. This will ensure that these students will not be at a disadvantage compared to the other students. Our school can build more study areas.

I have observed that the study areas in the school is always packed and therefore results in students studying in their classrooms during recess. Although for some, they have the convenience to study in their homes without distractions, there are others who are not able to afford to do so.

Hence to accommodate to all types of students, the school should build better study areas to allow students to study more efficiently. The study areas can be air conditioned and have a rule that states that students in or within the vicinity should lower down their volume to reduce noise pollution to allow students to study in a more conducive environment.

In conclusion, having more conducive study areas will allow more students to have access to study efficiently and effectively.

For example, the carbonara from the western cuisine store can cost up to $2.50 but does not taste up to standard.
I believe that we should change and add more food vendors so that we can change and increase the quality of the food to satisfy the students and teachers. On top of that, the school can lower the price of foods to make it more affodable so that people of from low income families can still indulge in food. For example, the school can standardise my making every food $2 with the food made out of premium quality.
Therefore in conclusion, we feel that the school should change vendors to allow for better quality of food and make it more affordable.

Good morning School Leaders, I am Gracia from class 3G and I am here to address the issue regarding the cleanliness in our school. The cleanliness of the school has been declining over the years and this needs to be changed. Students lack the discipline to take initiative and do their part in cleaning the school. In the long run, this leads to negative impacts, for example, attracting pests.
This issue is of great concern to us as the school is a place where students learn and study, so, we need to keep it clean to ensure a conducive environment. This is so that students have a good place to learn. This issue is serious as it will attract pests if the school is not kept clean. Furthermore, this will ruin the school’s image as a dirty and unhygienic place when there are visitors. The canteen’s uncleanliness will lead to students falling ill after eating the food.
Therefore, I believe that placing more rubbish bins in the school’s proximity would be appropriate. In addition, cleaning duties could be assigned to students using a duty roster as this ensures everyone to not only contribute to the school’s well-being but also keep the school clean.
In conclusion, I propose that rubbish bins are made more accessible to tackle the lazy nature of students and also assign cleaning duties to students so that they learn to be more disciplined. This will reduce the negative impacts and hopefully improve the cleanliness of our school.

The issue I am stating today will be the unhealthy diet the stores are serving to hildans and the case of food poisoning lately happening.

This problems is a great importance as I believe that the school canteen food can do better than this so I care about this as it will cause an unbalanced meal for the students. I have also realised that students are getting obese lately and are all underweight. I have also found out that these students meal are all fried food.
