What spaces or facilities could Pallant House Gallery have in the future to make the gallery more accessible to more people eg for families, young people and creative artists?

Relationship between gardening and the arts - garden space, artists who have been gardeners and produced work inspired by gardening, horticulture and art, engagement with plants and people can build relationships with that, visit Garden Museum (r/ship between artists that work with plants and working with pigmentation and soils etc.)

How can prof artists be seen in their studio context rather than just in the outcome made at the end. i.e. artists doing residencies doing work in the gallery and people can see what they are doing and talk to them - art as a living thing - don't see art as absent from the maker - include artist in that dialogue. Spaces - have a serious professional artist studio adjacent to the building with residencies can be undertaken and involved in gallery and see work in progress

Goodwood Art Foundation - learn from that and how they are blending art in a natural environment / landscape - leading from that - exhibiting outside of a gallery and in other spaces. PHG has a strong r/ship with Cathedral (different architecture, scale and light) and space for sculpture inside and outside. i.e. visit Chagall (window) in Cathedral and then go to PHG to see more of his work

Chichester area - Downs, City, Coast - Satellite - i.e. West Wittering cafe (incorporate thing there that they could exhibit)

Opp to visit collection - i.e. V&A East - offer exhibition space to a collector / investment in storage space and another way of viewing the collection

PHG mission statement - celebrating overlooked and emering artists - PHG has always taken a stance that they are not always interested in local artists, but there are a lot of skilled artists locally and younger and emerging artists and hard to make any traction in art world because they are not in London. Build artistic community around PHG and to find ways to be more generous towards them and supporting them to build their careers. Some local artists are invisible in art world. i.e. Towner Eastbourne have a regular open exhibition where they select high standard work to show in their galleries and also support local artists.

Towner hold fairs with local crafts people (textile, jewellery, print) and new audience of people that can be attracted to PHG

Who is not visiting PHG - people who have not been introduced to art or had much interaction with art before and maybe through fairs etc they could get to know the gallery and then visit the art. Differences between arts and crafts (?)

American roadtrip exhibition - audience numbers were high, people not attracted to the photos but they had an emotional connection to the american roadtrip and the subject

Mark Power's book about weather forecast (shipping forecast) - people have an emotional connection to the shipping forecast

Cathedral's 950th anniversary - opp to have an exhibition about Christian iconography art up to modern

Young people could be welcomed more actively into the gallery (kids and students at uni) - none of them feel that PHG is their natural home - something could be done to enhance that and actively bring in young people - people who have left school - Uni and College age (live in Chichester and thinking what they can do with their artistic interests)

Nature of art is maybe not always appealing to certain audiences - quite an academic focus to some of the work / balance with work that is more appealing to a younger audience - i.e. how art can affect society and culture / challenging work
