Hitting a baseball is a highly complex skill that requires much practice. A player's swing needs to be consistent if they wish to get on base. The best way to learn all the fundamentals of the bat swing is to break it up into smaller skills. Players progress from simpler skills like hitting off a tee to more difficult and variable ones like hitting soft toss from a coach. A Hit-a-way, the product shown below, is designed for repetitive hitting of a suspended ball that wraps around the post. when the cord unwinds the ball again travels towards the hitter.

Cognitive Stage of Fitts and Posner Three-Stage Model

The cognitive stage of the Three-Stage Model serves to gather good strategies and make advances in the skill level of a task. When learning a new instrument, the gains that are made early on can be strongly influenced by cognitive processes, such as previous experiences. So someone that used to play the cello will have a much easier time learning how to play guitar due to the similarity of the movements.

Interference occurs when we try to process too much information regarding our actions and are unable to devote full attention to any one task. For example, when my parents go running, they listen to their own music while having a conversation. My dad always tells me that they are unable to hold a conversation for very long because their attention is being drawn elsewhere

Certain skills or aspects of skills can be rehearsed and reinforced through mental practice. Focusing on important concepts of the desired movements and how to properly execute them can influence the result of the movement. I coach middle school track and field, and I instruct the long jumpers to imagine themselves making their last 2 steps shorter than the others. This is essential because the shorter steps help the jump be more explosive

For many tasks that require recall from memory, it is beneficial to the individual to perform the task in the same environment that it was practiced in. The encoding stage helps to register the information from the environment and prepare it to be stored. Some students like to study in the lecture hall that they will take the exam in so that the environments are the same.
