Casually checking in with students (before or after class, in the hallway, at lunch, during recess, or after school). For example, "What was your favorite Olympic event from last night?" or "I loved watching you during the talent show last night!"
Magaña and Marzano (2014) suggest, "creating a class website, and encouraging students to contribute by posting comments that reflect their interests, thoughts, and feelings" (pg. 135). Respond with comments yourself that indicate affection for students.
Send encouraging emails or texts to students and families where you provide positive comments about students. Use your phone or device to photograph students participating in positive classroom behavior and include that with emojis or bitmojis that shows your appreciation.

Creating a classroom website, encourage your students to submit photos with positive classroom behaviors; you can also include these photographs. Emails make for quick communication with students and parents about their positive behavior! Remind 101 is an app and online product that I've used to send reminders to classes; I used this as my texting students. This does not give out your personal phone number, and students and families sign up to receive your messages.

Photo Bulletin Board

The teacher designs a bulletin board that displays students' photos, personal goals, hobbies, interests and other fun facts. This would be difficult to include everyone in a classroom like physical education, but by taking turns with grades or classes, this could be doable! An important thing to remember is to continue asking for photos (or taking them in your classroom) throughout the year.
Another possibility is a Student of the Month slideshow that incorporates "images of an exemplary student, that student's favorite music, and quotes from the student" (Magaña & Marzano (2014) pg 135). An additional idea would be to have a rotating slideshow on your classroom website with students in your classroom. Whenever anyone visits the site, they would have the opportunity to see what their students are doing at school; include a favorite song or quote on the slide as well.

By using your phone or device, you take pictures to display in the slideshow on your classroom website. The slideshow could also be displayed on IWB software when students are entering the room or school. Some schools have a daily announcements TV in the lobby, this would be a perfect place to display a couple pictures from your classroom!
