The Jigsaw Classroom is a great way to engage students and have them interact with one another. Students must rely on one another in this classroom setting, and in this way they become valuable resources to each other. No student can succeed unless the students are able to work together, and this builds crucial relationships and teaches the students how to form connections with others.

Students who engage in journal writing are able to learn social awareness by first becoming aware of their own, personal emotions. Only then can these students accurately begin to understand how others are feeling. Journal writing builds emotional intelligence necessary for students to build relationships.

Journal writing also allows for students to reflect on the school environment and how they are feeling about their peers. Giving the students time to reflect on their experiences with other peers, they can become more self aware about their social awareness and how they are interacting with those around them.
