I think Homer is real as though there may not be evidence for his existence many believe that he is a oral poet rather than one writes because he is blind. Another fact that supports his existence is that many believe that he existed between 850 and 750 B.C. They don' t think he also lived to long as writing was being reintroduced again around that time which means that most poems were probably done orally. This also supports that the fact that he composed his poems orally as writing was being reintroduced and there are details that further support the idea that they were composed orally.

I believe Homer was a real person. Although there are no records of him, that does not mean that he didn’t exist. The parts of his life that historians have been able to infer about make sense, and fit in with the way his poems were written. People say that since the Iliad was written differently than the Odyssey, it must have been two different poets who wrote them. But I think that perhaps it was the same person: Homer. Just because someone’s writings are different, that does not mean that they didn’t write it. No one has been able to prove that Homer didn’t write the poems, so, I think he was real.

I think Homer is real because of the fact that he's mentioned. If he weren't real, why would we be mentioning him in the first place? Also, we are given a decent amount of information about him. We "know" he was born in Ionia in western Asia Minor and that he was blind. If he wasn't a real person, I don't think we would know this information. Plus, if the people made it a tradition, then he has to be real. However, it could be possible that Homer wasn't a real person, BUT is a tribute to an actual poet that lived during those times.

I believe that Homer could be real. However, there may be facts that can be exaggerated over time. Based on the reading there is no evidence explaining if he lived or not. But why would people talk about him and the stories that he had composed if he didn't live? I believe one possible reason why there is no evidence is because he was a blind man who orally composed his stories instead of writing them. In the end, nobody was able to give evidence that he didn't write the poems so he could be real. In the end, what really matters is that we are able to read the epic poems "Iliad and Odyssey."

He could've have been someone who heard the stories elsewhere and spread them around under his name, we see how different the 2 pieces of work is, hinting at 2 different folks. Perhaps he heard it and added his own little style to it as well, but he must have been a real person just spreading the word around.

Other important literary writers from ancient times have records about them, even if very little, but there is nothing about Homer's life. His life, such as his birthplace, is nothing but rumors passed down to give someone credit for these writings. True history has almost always lost its true message over time like a game of telephone so it would be highly if homer was actually real.

Based on the reading I believe Homer didn't exist as there is no evidence to prove he was an actual person who wrote these poems. As stated in the text the Iliad and the Odyssey have different writing styles, showing how those poems could have been written by two different authors. It is possible that Homer could've changed his writing during his lifetime but as there is no solid proof to prove his existence it is safer to say Homer didn't exist.

I think that this explains why the Odyssey and the Iliad are both different, nothing that has been told over and over again will remain the same throughout. If Homer told them verbally then there is no way that the audience would remember them word by word. As they are being retold someone might replace or take away some parts of the story. This is the reason why I believe that Homer really existed.

But his poems are said to be passed down orally which means that people could have changed his name and the poem a little. As time has passed every aspect of the poems and who he was can have been changed leaving little of the original details. This is also probably why we can't find proof they existed because their name was never Homer.

I believe that Homer isn't a real person because they couldn't prove his existence or had any record of it. If he really was a real person they would've reintroduced writing to the greek culture. Another reason is that the two writings, the Iliad and the Odyssey, were written differently. Iliad was a single long, highly dramatic narrative while the Odyssey was an episodic and adventure novel. This caused people to think that they were actually written by two different poets.

I think Homer is not a real person because although we may know some stuff about him, the book states that it is a tradition. If it's just a tradition, and not real facts, then that proves that Homer isn't real. Also, if he was a well known poet/writer, there should have been a well written biography about him, but there isn't, also proving he wasn't a real person. Although he is the author of many poems such as the odyssey, we can't 100% prove he was a real person as there isn't enough information about him. A possible theory could be that someone else wrote the Odyssey, but since people didn't know that person that well, they may have given him a nickname, Homer.
