The GPE estimated in 2015, 250 million primary school-age children being excluded or offered inequitable accessibility to learning. Partly, due too developing nations' inability to assess students' learning, as a result of insufficient funds. Therefore, the GPE 2020 strategic plan, aims to generate investments from international donors and non-governmental organizations to improve learning assessment, thus, increase education equality.

The GPE 2020 has condensed its goals to three as illustrated below:

The GPE continues to contribute funds toward gender-responsive strategies for increasing the awareness of education for girls. The GPE sets out to expose governments' gender inequalities through their monitoring and analysis of student enrollment and achievement results. From 2002-2016 the GPE has promoted progress across its developing nations partnerships. The results are below (June, 2018). Nonetheless, constraints remain present, calling for further action to be made.

22 out of it 28 target goals in 2017 were met by the GPE. Leading to increases in the number of children in developing nations who completed primary education; up from 73% to 76%. In addition, 18.5 million children were support, a drastic increased from 2016 results which estimated 13.2 million children. Overall, with the GPE's guidance and accessibility to financial grants, 79% of their developing nation partnerships, increased funding toward education. The GPE coordinates between numerous donors, international agencies, local governments, etc. thus, it is no surprise constraints remain which continue to impede equitable education across various regions in the world. Nonetheless, the GPE continues forth restructuring policies, generating new partnerships both developing nations and developed donors in hopes to spread quality and accessible education to all.
