Ayllus were groups of families that made up the foundation of the Inca. They could range in any size from small villages to large towns. All members in the Ayllu had to work except the very young and the very old. They young stayed home until they got married. Young men could get married at the age of 20 while young women could get married only by 16. And they usually got married with their ayllu.
