His start to creating the Mormon Church began by being visited by an angel named Moroni. The angel shared with him knowledge of hidden artifacts. Smith began moving around all the while spreading the word spoken to him by the angel. Among the artifacts were golden plates which only Smith was able to transcribe. After temporarily having the plates taken away from him he finished the transcribing and created the Book of Mormon. After which he began to amass his congregation. Moving from town to town state to state his congregation grew rapidly. Unfortunately after disagreement and rumors spread about Smith and his advisers. Smith and his brother were jailed and killed by a mob. Many disagree about Smith's true message and what Mormonism stands for, but what is agreed upon was the fact that he was one of America's most influential and charismatic men that ever lived.
