- I think my best accomplishment from last semester was that I learned so much about open-ended questions from one of the courses.

My best accomplishment last year was that I dunked for the first time in my life. It was at JOS and I watch that video to remind myself of who I can be. I'm pursuing something along the lines of a guidance counselor because I know that I'm good with kids. I used to be the kid not knowing what he's doing after high school. I had all these ideas, but never settled on one. So, I want to help encourage kids to go to college, and if they don't, I want to encourage them to work as hard as they can to be successful. I'm willing to help those who are willing to listen. Some skills that I want to obtain from this course is better conversation skills and to use better vocabulary when I'm talking or typing. - I spent my childhood in Cincinnati, OH, and moved to a small town called Washington Court House, OH for high school, graduating in May of 2020.
- In this past year, I've really gotten into cooking and making homemade dinners and desserts. I love trying new crockpot recipes, but I really enjoy seafood, with salmon being my favorite.
- I like watching crime/mystery films and t.v. shows, and like to read romantic thriller books.
- My closest family member is definitely my cousin, Hannah. Hannah is 23 years old, so there is a two year age gap between us, but the age difference has never gotten in the way of our friendship, it's only strengthened it. She's the one I always turn to in times of need, and I know she will always have my back like I have hers.
- Last semester I took on HDFS as a double major in addition to my dental hygiene major. I would say juggling those two majors, as well as working and supporting myself along the way was my biggest accomplishment from last semester.
- Currently my career path includes graduating with my HDFS degree as well as my dental hygiene degree. From there forward, I plan to practice my DH licensure in a pediatric dental office, and hopefully return to school in the next couple of years to obtain a graduate degree in HDFS, specifically working in Couples and Family Therapy field of study.
- In this course, I'm hoping to broaden my knowledge of the research methods used within families and their behavior. With that, I hope to apply the themes, patterns, and methods explored in this course to apply to future courses and my future career.
- Recently, I've gotten interested in traveling and seeing the world. I have yet to travel out of the country, so hopefully after I graduate next spring and the pandemic is officially over I am able to take some time to explore other countries.
- I find that keeping the line of communication open and having opportunities to speak with the professor and my peers one on one is beneficial towards online learning.

It would be really helpful to me if the instructor would be greater access to office hours when I feel I need help. My favorite movie is a tie between Shawshank Redemption and Pride and Prejudice. Two very different movies but both so good!
My younger brother is probably my closest family member. We are a year apart and when our older siblings went away to college, it was just us in the house for two years so we got really close. 
A hobby is that I love to read and read a lot. A talent that comes with this is that I am able to finish three hundred pages books in around three hours! Also, I love hiking and exploring outdoors! My picture is of a hike that I did last semester at Red River Gorge, KY.
My best accomplishment from last year would be finishing my minor in Pharmaceutical Sciences. I really loved the classes and learned a lot in the process.
I am currently pursuing mission field for the first few years after college. My faith is very important to me and I am excited to be able to pursue it full time for a few years. After that I am looking forward to going back to school to get my masters in Child Life Specialty. I am passionate about this field because I was able to see the work these professionals do up close while my sister was in the hospital during high school. 
I am hoping to learn more about about how to use and apply research to my field of study. I am passionate about working with people, and especially in the hospital settings. I am excited to learn how to understand, use, and apply research methods to further understanding in my field.
When the pandemic is over, I am looking forward to having more options and availability for traveling because I would love to visit so many places and have never left the country!
A smart goal that I have for this course be to stay on tasks with assignments and to not wait till the last minute to finish them. 
Advice for the online format would just be good communication! I am really close with my younger brother who has just turned 18, and we connected while I was getting ready to leave home for college. We were always okay with being siblings but the fact that there was going to be some separation, really brought us together.

I was a 4 year varsity athlete and 4 year national team athlete, and I still play competitive adult volleyball now. I also played violin for 12 years.

My best accomplishment last semester was working 3 jobs, being a full time student, and passing my classes.

I am pursuing an HDFS major and the ability to help others in various ways is what makes me passionate about it.

I hope to learn a skillset that I can use and develop or further develop a skillset that I already have, that will assist me in the future.

I am looking forward to eating out with my friends and family and spending time in public places as well.

One specific goal I have is to be thorough with all my assignments and turn them all in on time, if not early.

As for the online format, I just ask for some organization; as long as the content online is organized, I feel like I can be successful.

I graduated from Columbus State in 2016 with an associate’s degree in Hospitality Management and decided to return to school in 2021 to obtain a bachelor’s degree. I’ll be graduating this May with a bachelor’s of Human Development and Family Science with a minor in Education. Upon graduation, I’m interested in continuing my education to receive a master’s degree in Human Resources. I acknowledge that my career path has been a bit all over the place throughout the years, but I really enjoy helping other people and being placed in a supportive role. Throughout my time in this course, I hope to learn what kinds of research on human development have provided breakthroughs in the social science world and how this research was successfully conducted. My best accomplishment last semester was being able to start working at the establishment I wish to work at in the future. I do not know much about research, and I have always struggled with previous assignments that required research so being able to learn about that entire aspect is something I am looking forward to :) One thing I look forward to when the pandemic is over is taking off the mask in general areas in the hospital. I work with kids now and not being able to smile at them and make them feel at ease with whatever we are doing in that appointment is a bit disappointing. So although  I encourage wearing the mask even when the pandemic is over being able to take it off work for a couple of minutes to let a patient see your entire face until they feel safe with you would be great. One goal that I have for this course is understanding the steps it takes to achieve great research for whatever you need that research for. My name is Tim Herber, and I use he/him/his pronouns. I am about as “true buckeye” as they come: I’ve lived in Columbus all my life! I attended an online high school based in Worthington called Ohio Connections Academy (OCA).
As far as favorite food goes… that is a tough choice between pizza and cookies and cream ice cream. A favorite animal, I can actually give three: In descending order: Snow leopard, capybara, and opossum. 
I would proffer to say that I’m Still Standing by Elton John is probably my favorite song, followed by Softcore by The Neighbourhood, and Only 1 by Ariana Grande. I know. Tough to nail down my music taste. It’s all over the place. 
I am definitely closest with my two brothers, mainly because they are two years younger than me and each other (Me, 21, Them 19 and 17).
I play the piano from time to time, I’ve participated in the Piano Guild when I was younger.
I think my best accomplishment last semester was taking a full dive into the world of HDFS coursework, and being comfortable with prioritizing my health over my schoolwork for, I think, the first time in my college career. All while still being academically successful.
My career path is likely to be working post-bachelor at an adoption agency, and I wish to move to working as a Marriage and Family Therapist once I complete a masters degree. I care about this field and major because it allows me to enact the most meaningful amount of change in the world. I’ve always been fascinated with the way that the family and the dynamics of family affect the outcomes of the children, and I hope to be able to discover these in my work in this interdisciplinary field. 
I hope to be a more informed research reader, and a better equipped researcher as I progress through this course. 
I think the thing I would be most looking forward to is this awful sense of fear and fright that I have every time I go outside going away. It has decreased in recent years because of getting a vaccination for COVID, but I still am concerned about what happens moving forward. 
My SMART goal is to achieve a grade of a “B” or higher on every exam that we have in the course this semester. To do this, I will study for at least 45 minutes to an hour every day for this course to meet its required attention needs.

     I grew up in Lorain, Ohio. It is a small city right on Lake Erie, and is about 30 minutes west of Cleveland. I attended Lorain High School, and while being there I was a part of the College Credit Plus Program, and I was able to graduate with both a High School Diploma and an Associates Degree. I also am a part of the Young Scholars Program! I have been since the 8th grade, and I have looked forward to coming here to OSU.
     My favorite food is almost any Puerto Rican dish because that is what I grew up eating. But I think two of my favorites would be Pollo Guisado and Mofongo ( I suggest that you all try these)! Also, my favorite animal are Elephants!
     As of right now, I have had SZA's new album on repeat. But my favorite song is one that is not on her album officially. But it's called PSA! I love it so much lol
     The closest family member that I have I would say is my mom. My mom had me when she was 20 years old (my age) and we practically grew up together. My mom inspires me every day, and she is always there for me when I need her. 
     One of my hobbies is going on walks and going to parks. It hard to do now because of the weather, but I love going on walks on trails and just being in nature.
     I am actually not sure where I want to go with this degree. I am very interested in the curriculum, as someone who is first-gen and who comes from not the best area. I have seen a lot within families and I am interested in learning about how our experiences affect our development. 
     I hope to have a better understanding of research and to hopefully be equipped with skills and knowledge that can help me possibly get into research of some sort!
     When the pandemic is over, I am looking forward to just feeling safe again. Ever since the pandemic, I have developed anxiety for large crowds, in fear that I would get sick. I am not scared for my own health, but I am scared that I could pass it to someone who is immunocompromised. I just hope that these anxieties can be relieved, while also being considerate of not only our health, but of other individual's as well. 
I know it is cliche but I hope to receive an A at the end of the course. I had a rough few semesters and this is my first semester that is mostly in-person. I hope that the in-person experience can help me become more motivated, and I can receive an A.

I grew up in Cincinnati Ohio and attended school at Wyoming. My favorite food is pizza. Any kind, but my favorite is Hawaiian pizza (yes, I like pineapple on my pizza). My favorite animal is either an otter or a giraffe. My favorite movie is Gone Girl. My closest family member is my cousin Donovan because I can call her anytime and talk to her about anything. She’s also 4 year older than me so she has been through the same life struggles as me which makes her insight invaluable. My hobbies include journaling, listening to records, thrift shopping, ceramics, reading, cooking, and playing with legos. My best accomplishment last semester was getting straight A’s while taking 18 credit hours after opting for completes in every class the past two semesters. I had my scholarship reinstated and I was able to bring my GPA back up. I am unsure of my career path but I will figure it out. I’m interested in HDFS because I want to be an advocate for children and their families and help bridge the gap between their potential and success. I’m still figuring out what this course is about, but I’m hoping to just acquire more concrete facts that I can spew when talking about injustice or suffering in society. One specific goal I have for this course is to have looked over or at least begun the chapter summaries before class that way I can get help from peers if I need to. Hi everyone, my name is Jackie Garin and my preferred pronouns are she, her, and hers. I come from a family of six with two brothers, two sisters, and my parents.  I was born in Ghana and moved to the U.S. at seven years old. I’ve been living in Columbus, Ohio since my family and I moved here. I went to a catholic high school called Cristo Rey Columbus Highschool that’s located downtown near Grant hospital. My favorite food is macaroni and cheese, my favorite animal is dogs, especially french bulldogs, and my favorite movie is Coming to America. I don’t have a favorite song, but at the moment, the song that I’ve found myself listening to a lot is “Bad To Me”, by the Nigerian music artist Wizkid. Although I come from a very close family, I would say that my closest family member is my younger sister Daniella who is seven years younger than me. My sister and I are very close because we have teh same music tastes and the same fashion sense and we always have a good time around one another by cracking jokes and just being ourselves. A unique thing about me is that I am a part of a dance group on campus known as Zuvva which is a dance group that focuses on Afrobeat and Afro-Caribbean dance styles. I actually joined this group last semester. My best accomplishment last semester was being able to balance dance, work, and school. This was definitely not easy for me whatsoever, but I was able to juggle all three.  The career path that I’m pursuing is nursing.  I'm an HDFS major and plan to use this degree to enter a nursing program. I want to be a nurse, specifically a pediatric nurse because I want to advocate for first-generation families. I remember when I first came to the U.S. and I had to go to the hospital to get vaccines I witnessed how my parents struggled to communicate their needs and concerns with the nurses because English is not their first language. I don’t want any parents afraid to bring their child to the hospital to receive adequate healthcare because they fear that they won’t be able to communicate their needs. A knowledge that I hope to take from this course is to learn how we can use scientific research to address issues within family development overall. A specific learning goal that I have for this course is to be able to effectively conduct my own scientific research.

My name is Dalonte' Manley (He/Him) and I am currently a 4th year Human Development and Family Science major with a minor in Organizational Communications. 
I am from small town Lima, Ohio which where is where I grew!(Fun Fact- Lima is one of the regional campuses that OSU has!). I attended Lima Senior High School where I was able to receive scholarships to come to OSU. While attending high school, I became very interested in education and thought I wanted to do it as a career. It wasn't until my sophomore year here at OSU while doing FEEP that I was interested in more of the administrative/policies in school districts rather than being an educator which has led me to becoming an HDFS major. 

My favorite food is definitely seafood! I primarily love seafood boils, but fried or baked Tilapia comes really close! Dogs make the top of the list for my favorite animal. My mom owns a Maltese/Shih Tzu mix and he has to be one of the closes things to my heart! 


My favorite movie is Poetic Justice. This movie has Tupac and Janet Jackson as the stars and I always enjoy watching a beautiful love story! 

My cousin Tiffany would definitely be one of my closes family members. She is my mothers older cousin (we have a large age gap) but she has helped me so much personally and professionally. She is one of the very few that understands me which is why I think we're so close. Growing up in my family there are many generational curses that I think only Tiffany and I see, so we tend to come together often to try to break them. We are both considered the "glue" of our family. 

Something that is unique about me that I like to mention is that I am spirit led! I love talking, learning and sharing experiences about God. My spirituality is a huge part of who I am and I love the fact that we are all walking testimonies to prove this. 

The best accomplishment of last semester and probably even my life was joining Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, Kappa Chapter. I have been exposed to entire different world of connections and a brotherhood unlike anyone that I've had before! 
I am pursuing a career and the non-profit sector! I was to be a Community Services director so that I can oversee grants/resources that are being put out into  low income communities. I became passionate about serving the communities who are considered to be low income because that is the community that I grew up in. It became personal when you realize that you're helping people like yourself! 
I hope to learn research skills that will help me throughout Grad School so that I can find out things that could easily be overlooked! 
I am looking forward to removing the anxiety that COVID has instilled in me pertaining to any sickness that comes around when the pandemic ends! 

One learning goal that I have for this course is to take things in one at a time and actually practice the research methods that are being taught so that I can conduct research on my own by the end of the semester! 

One advice that I have pertaining to helping me learn through an online format is being open to the fact that I am not that good with technology!

- One of my closest family members is my cousin Kalesha we’re like 3 years apart so the proximity of age contributed to the closeness. We’ve been able to share the secrets of each other and have each other’s backs when we need it. She recently just had a son that I love so much. 
- I used to run AAU track from ages 8 to 15 and I’ve participated in the Jr. Olympics in AAU where I got to travel and compete with many other runners from all around the states. 
- My best accomplishment last semester was being able to pass all my classes with grades higher than a B. 3 As and 1 B..
- I want to become a child life specialist. I was passionate about this field because I initially wanted a job as a pediatrician, but I thought instead of delivering medicine I would deliver care for children in need. In a hospital setting where it can be stressful for both the child and parent, I am able to provide them with a little comfort.
- I want to be able to use these methods in my own work and career and expand on it to help others. This includes how to care for different types of children and parents and from many different backgrounds. 
-Being able to be with my family and not have to worry about the risk of spreading a deadly virus. Being around people in general and also not having to have panic attacks whenever I or someone around me is sick because of the uncertainty.

Hello! My name is Dawson Stewart. I grew up in Manhattan, KS and went to Manhattan High school. My favorite food is my mommas broccoli chicken curry (SO GOOD) and my favorite animal is a wolf, always has been for some reason haha. My favorite song is probably a song by Drake and my favorite movie is for sure Inception because of how thought provoking it is (and I love Leonardo DiCaprio). I am very close to all of my family, I am the oldest of four siblings. I love basketball, and an accomplishment I had was doing both full time school and full time work and doing okay in both. I am pursuing business operations and I love the relational aspect of the possibilities in this field. I hope to learn how to relate with people better through this course. I look forward to being even more in-person with people and more people being healthy in post-pandemic life. I specific learning goal that I have is two have three concrete principles learned and implemented by the end of this course.
