This hadith is narrated by Umar ibn Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) and recorded in Sahih Muslim. It is known as the Hadith of Jibril because Angel Jibril (Gabriel) came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in the form of a man to teach the people about religion.

🗣️ Summary of the Hadith

A man appeared before the Prophet ﷺ with very white clothes and very black hair. No one knew him, yet he had no signs of travel. He sat close to the Prophet ﷺ and asked him questions about:

1. Islam

2. Iman (faith)

3. Ihsan (excellence)

4. The Hour (Day of Judgment)

5. Its signs

At the end, the Prophet ﷺ told the companions:

"That was Jibril (Gabriel), he came to teach you your religion."

🌙 1. Islam – The Five Pillars of Islam

Jibril asked: “Tell me about Islam.”
The Prophet ﷺ replied that Islam is built on five things:

1. Shahadah – Bearing witness that there is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is His Messenger.

2. Salah – Performing the five daily prayers.

3. Zakat – Giving charity to the poor.

4. Sawm – Fasting during the month of Ramadan.

5. Hajj – Performing pilgrimage to Makkah (if able).

   Then Jibril asked: “Tell me about Iman (faith).”
   The Prophet ﷺ said it is to believe in:

   1. Allah

   2. His Angels

   3. His Books

   4. His Messengers

   5. The Last Day (Day of Judgment)

   6. Qadar (Divine Decree) – both the good and the bad of it

🌟 3. Ihsan – Spiritual Excellence

Jibril asked: “Tell me about Ihsan.”
The Prophet ﷺ replied:

"It is to worship Allah as if you see Him. Even though you do not see Him, He sees you."

⏳ 4. The Hour – The Day of Judgment

Jibril asked: “When is the Hour?”
The Prophet ﷺ replied:

“The one being asked knows no more than the one asking.”

⚠️ 5. The Signs of the Hour (Minor Signs)

Jibril then asked: “Tell me about its signs.”
The Prophet ﷺ said:

1. The slave girl will give birth to her mistress.

   • This means there will be a breakdown of family structure or roles.

2. You will see barefoot, naked, poor shepherds competing in building tall buildings.

   • Describes how those who were once poor will become wealthy and compete in materialism.

📘 Lessons and Teachings from Hadith Jibril

1. Structure of Religion: Islam, Iman, and Ihsan represent three levels of religion: practice, belief, and excellence.

2. Knowledge and Humility: Even the Prophet ﷺ didn’t know the time of the Hour, teaching us humility.

3. Importance of Learning: Jibril came in human form to teach the companions in a powerful, interactive way.

4. True Faith: Real Iman and Ihsan are not just in actions but come from deep sincerity and awareness of Allah.

5. Signs of the End: We should reflect on how the minor signs are appearing in our world today.

Belief in Allah is the fundamental concept in Islam, referring to the faith in the one, unique, and supreme God who is the creator, sustainer, and ruler of everything. Allah is without any partners, equals, or offspring, and is the sole object of worship.

Belief in Malaikah (Angels)

Malaikah are angels, heavenly beings created from a luminous origin by Allah. They are fundamental in Islamic faith as one of the six articles of faith (Iman). Angels are virtuous, obedient servants of Allah who carry out His commands without question. They have various roles, such as delivering revelations, recording deeds, and executing divine orders. Unlike other beings, angels are free from sin and do not possess free will. They can carry out tasks that may seem grim or severe, highlighting their role as executors of divine decree rather than mere bearers of good news.

Belief in Kutub (Revealed Books)

Kutub refers to the divine books revealed by Allah to His prophets as guidance for humanity. These include well-known scriptures like the Torah (Tawrat) given to Moses, the Psalms (Zabur) given to David, the Gospel (Injil) given to Jesus, and the Quran given to Muhammad. Belief in these books is the fourth article of faith in Islam. Muslims believe these scriptures originally contained Allah’s message, but that they have been altered or corrupted over time, except for the Quran, which is regarded as the final, preserved, and unaltered revelation.

In summary, belief in Allah as the one God, belief in angels as His created spiritual beings carrying out His commands, and belief in revealed books as divine guidance are core tenets of Islamic faith. • Anbiya’ (Prophets): Chosen individuals sent by Allah to guide people with His message. Some of them received revelation, while others followed the teachings of earlier messengers.

• Rasul (Messengers): A higher rank of Prophets. They were given new revelations or scriptures to deliver to their people (e.g., Prophet Muhammad ﷺ with the Qur’an, Prophet Musa عليه السلام with the Torah, Prophet Isa عليه السلام with the Injil).

• Muslims believe in all prophets and messengers sent by Allah, from Adam to Muhammad ﷺ, without rejecting any of them.

• They serve as role models, showing how to live in obedience to Allah.

• Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is the final messenger (Khatam an-Nabiyyin), and his message is universal for all humanity.

2. Belief in the Hereafter (Akhirah)

• Life does not end with death. Muslims believe in life after death.

• Every soul will be resurrected and judged by Allah for their deeds.

• The stages include:

  • The grave (Barzakh),

  • Resurrection (Qiyamah),

  • Judgment Day,

  • Receiving the record of deeds,

  • Crossing the Sirat (bridge over Hellfire).

• The righteous will be rewarded with Paradise (Jannah), while those who reject faith and persist in evil will face Hell (Jahannam).

• This belief encourages Muslims to live responsibly, do good, avoid sins, and have hope in Allah’s mercy.

3. Belief in Qada’ and Qadar (Divine Decree)

• This means believing that everything happens by the will, knowledge, and wisdom of Allah.

• Qada’: Allah’s eternal decree of all things.

• Qadar: The unfolding of that decree in creation according to Allah’s knowledge and plan.

• Nothing happens by chance—whether good or bad, it is part of Allah’s plan.

• However, humans are still responsible for their choices. Allah gives free will to choose between good and evil, and people are accountable for their decisions.

• This belief teaches Muslims to:

  • Be grateful in good times,

  • Be patient in hardships,

  • Trust in Allah’s wisdom and justice.

✨ In summary:

• Belief in Prophets reminds us that Allah guided humanity through chosen messengers.

• Belief in the Hereafter makes us accountable for our actions and hopeful for eternal reward.

• Belief in Qada’ and Qadar builds trust, patience, and acceptance of Allah’s plan.

• Tamim al-Dari, before accepting Islam, was a Christian. After he became Muslim, he told the Prophet ﷺ about a strange journey he experienced.

• He and some others boarded a ship. Strong waves tossed them until they reached an island.

• On the island, they met a strange hairy creature called Al-Jassasah, who told them to go to a man in a monastery.

• They went inside and found a very large man, chained tightly with iron shackles around his hands and feet.

• The man asked them many questions:

  • About whether the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ had appeared among the Arabs.

  • About whether the land of Sham (Syria/Palestine area) still had water and crops.

  • About whether the lake of Tiberias (Sea of Galilee) still had water.

  • About whether the date palms of Baysan (in Jordan/Palestine) still bore fruit.

• When they answered, he revealed his identity: “I am Al-Masih ad-Dajjal (the False Messiah). Soon I will be permitted to leave, and I will travel the earth. I will not leave any town except Mecca and Medina, for they are forbidden to me.”

Tamim al-Dari later told this story to the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet confirmed it, gathered the people, and told them this was true — adding that he had already informed them of Dajjal’s characteristics.

Key Lessons and Conclusion

1. Dajjal is real – He exists and will appear near the end of times as a great trial for humanity.

2. His power is limited – He is chained until Allah allows his release, and he cannot enter Mecca or Medina.

3. Signs before his coming – The drying of the Sea of Galilee and the decline of crops in certain areas are among the signs.

4. Great Fitnah (trial) – He will deceive people with miracles and false claims of divinity. Only those firm in faith will be safe.

5. Protection from Dajjal – The Prophet ﷺ advised:

   • Reciting the first 10 (or last 10) verses of Surah Al-Kahf.

   • Seeking refuge in Allah during prayer: “Allahumma inni a‘udhu bika min ‘adhabi Jahannam, wa min ‘adhabil-qabr, wa min fitnatil-mahya wal-mamat, wa min sharri fitnatil-Masihid-Dajjal.”

✨ Conclusion:
The story of Tamim al-Dari shows us that Dajjal is a real person, currently restrained until Allah permits his emergence. His coming will be the greatest test for mankind, where only strong faith and knowledge can protect believers. It teaches us to stay connected to the Qur’an, especially Surah Al-Kahf, and to constantly seek Allah’s protection.

In Hikmah—especially in Islamic philosophy and kalām—acquisition (kasb) is a concept used to explain human action, free will, and God’s power without contradiction.

It answers a big question:

If Allah is the Creator of everything, how are humans responsible for their actions?

What “Kasb” (Acquisition) Means

Kasb literally means “to acquire” or “to earn.”

Philosophically and theologically, it means:

• Allah creates the action

• The human being acquires the action through intention and choice

So:

• Creation (khalq) belongs to Allah

• Responsibility (taklīf) belongs to humans

Why This Concept Exists in Hikmah

In Hikmah, thinkers try to balance three truths:

1. Allah is all-powerful (nothing exists without His will)

2. Humans choose and intend their actions

3. Moral responsibility is real (reward and punishment make sense)

Without kasb:

• Pure determinism → no moral responsibility

• Pure free will → limits God’s absolute power

Kasb avoids both extremes.

How Acquisition Works (Simplified)

Let’s say a person decides to help someone.

1. The intention and choice come from the human

2. The actual act (movement, strength, outcome) is created by Allah

3. The human acquires the act because they willed and chose it

When asked about faith, the Prophet ﷺ said:

“It is to believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and destiny (Qadar), its good and its evil.”

Fasting means abstaining from food, drink, and marital relations from dawn (Fajr) to sunset (Maghrib) with the intention (niyyah) of worshipping Allah.
