The television series  "The Simpsons" made an episode about "The Raven", one of Poe's most popular works, not to mention there were 81 films based off his literature. Another big thing is that an award is actually named after him, the Edger Allen Poe award. Which is what Edger Allen Poe did he married his cousin, Virginia. There was a huge age difference where he was 27 and she was 14, it was fine back then but many people today have different, strong opinions about that. Virginia Eliza Clemm Poe died in January 30th , 1847. His friends had avoided him as he had returned. Poe's foster-father John Allen had gotten into a heated argument ending with Poe packing his bags and leaving for Boston. While in Boston, Poe had written his first book consisting of poetry which he published anonymously. Poe then enlisted in the army under "Edgar L. Perry". He did well for a soldier as he was in the army for five years. Poe had risen to the rank of sergeant major while he served. Poe then went to the very famous military academy West Point. Although he had excelled, he had soon realized West Point was not for him. He had then decided to get himself kicked out, which he had successfully done.  He had done by refusing to attend chapel or classes. He was court-martialed and dismissed. "The army does not suit a poor man — so I left W. Point abruptly," he later wrote, "and threw myself upon literature as a resource.
