the cotton club was a very famous club during the 1920s- 1930s it was located in harlem, New York and was mostly and all african american club that was owned by a british ganster.

MUSIC - 1924 at the cotton club ellington made a jazz group known as the jingle sound in 1924 they made there first record with songs "choo choo" and "rainy days". The cotton club was very popular along with the "jingle sound" through out the city.

BAR- In 1923 the club opened by "Owney" madden a white gangster mainly used the club for his his 1# beer to sell for the Prohibition crowd. The club was closed several times for selling alcahol then. The only big closing was in febuary 1923.

MUSIC- Between 1927- 1931 Duke Ellington and his band made 150 records. They made the Cotton Club very famous.

LOCATION- After 14 years of successful club business riots in harlem began to grow and its was a very unsafe neighborhood to live in at the time. The cotton club was forced to shut down in February 1936. It then re opened in september 1936 but with a new location. 48th street downtown. It remained there until june 1940

OWNER- In 1920 boxer Jack Johnson owned the "Club Deluxe". Then he sold it to Owen "Owney" Madden. Owney was a New York Prohibition gangster.

MUSIC- In New York at the time music was very important and there wasn't many clubs open in New York and The Cotton Club was one of the popular rare ones in Harlem New York City.
