Studying abroad has always been my dream. In January 2017, my dream had come through, I came to Bellerbys college to further my study. The course I had applied during that time is A level and I planned to study nutrition in university. I had a strong passion for our daily nutrition this is because people in this new era do not have a healthy eating lifestyle. The study environment in Bellerbys college has a mix of students from different backgrounds and cultures. This allows helping me get prepared for University. The first time I came to UK to for holiday was at 2015 during summer. Summer in the UK was not hot as my country. This time as I came to the UK is to further my study. When my first arrive in Brighton is in the early morning, the weather is cold as the UK is known to have bad weather like strong wind, cloudy, raining although January is winter. I came from a tropical country which does not have four seasons. In my country, we only have hot weather which always achieves about 38C every day. Brighton is a lovely city beside the seaside. The beach is full of pebbles which is different from another beach which is fine sand. There are many seagulls in Brighton, in the morning I can hear seagulls chirping. These repeats every day and my life still goes on.

Back in my own country, Malaysia, I studied in local high school. The education style in my own country is different from the UK. What I found after I came to Uk is that the syllabus in Uk was a little bit easier than in my own country, whereas, in Malaysia, the syllabus tends to be harder especially in mathematics. In most of the Asian country which includes Malaysia, teacher likes to spoon feed the student such as telling the student the way to answer the question by giving the answer and repeat it a few times and give us lots of notes. Whereas in the UK, the student needs to be independent to search and find the answer yourself and do our own notes. Other than that the word load in Uk was not much compared to Malaysia. In Asia country, it is typical to have homework every day from every subject teacher, whilst in the homework given by every subject teacher only once per week. In Malaysia, like others Asia country, exercise book for every subject can be found in every bookstore, the student tends to buy every subject exercise book which publishes by a different publisher. Conversely, it is very hard to find exercise book in the UK. Malaysia is a country that has a different religion, in my school, we have Malay, Chinese and Indian. My friends are mostly Chinese and I have a few of close Indian and Malay friends. In Bellerbys, I found that the percentage of Chinese is more than the others. Other than this, the number of student in a class in Malaysia is around 30 student, but in the UK most of the classes are about 15 people which are very different from Malaysia but in my class, there is only 5 student.

Currently, I am studying Science and Pharmacy Foundation in Bellerbys. The reason for me to study this program is because I found it quite difficult to cope with the A-level especially the Chemistry. After I change my course to Foundation, I really found it is easier than A level, not only Foundation has lesser topic than A level, the teacher that I met is better than the previous. The main subject I am studying is Chemistry and Biology. These subject help me to get into the Nutrition course in university. I had been studying this program for 4 months. In these 4 months, I got a lot of support from my different subject teacher, especially from my tutor teacher. The way I was taught in Chemistry in the UK is similar to the way I was taught back in Malaysia. This had made me easy to understand the theory and helped me improve my marks. Whereas in Biology, the teaching method is mostly kind of independent work. During the last term, my biology teacher always in an ill situation which there will be another teacher taking over the class and there is no teaching will ongoing in the class. This had made me had a little bit difficulties in the subject, but my teacher ended up to provide extra class. In the class, she will revisit that topic that we found difficult.

Other than the main subject, this foundation has core modules which are English Skill. This English class is very different from other typical English class. The Foundation English Skill class help us to have the understanding of how the lesson will be taught and cope in the lecture class when we get into university. This English Skill class teach about the academic English which uses that formal language in class and it is different from general language, like for daily speaking. The skill that we learn such as note taking, presentations, group discussion and more. Other than teaching us the academic language, seriously, I personally think that this English Skill class does not really help, as these skills are taught when I was in secondary school. Everyone has different methods of taking the notes. One of the example I do not like the way is taught in English Skill class is the way I take notes. For me, I like to be organised and clearly know where I get my points from and wrote in in points and my own types of headings. Whereas the teacher wants us to write in the way how they mark which I personally think I am forced to do what I do not want. I have a cousin who currently studies in INTO Manchester, although it is the different school, she also has English class which learn almost the same things. She told me that it is useless to learn these things.

One of the core modules in this foundation program is Computer Information Technology which is known as CIT. The purpose of study this module is to let us improve our IT skill such as teaching us how to use the Microsoft Office. Other than that we also learnt how to use the blog and what content is suitable to put on the blog. Well, if these skills are taught in those foundation programs who are in accounting or media I think it would be reasonable. But for science foundation, I do not think this will help us in university. Like the Microsoft Excel, the data we get in the experiment is realistic and not in a fix equation, which makes me think that learning how to use Microsoft Excel is more suitable for people who want to do accounting related subject in university but not for science. Whereas for the blog, seriously, I think is a waste of time, although the topic is given, I still need to think what should I put for the content This is because I had asked a few friends of mine they what they think about the blog, and they were like ' WHAT! BLOG?' and why does science student need to create a blog?

After 5 months of study of this foundation program in Bellerbys, I found that the subject I have the most interest in it is Chemistry and followed by Biology. This program provided me much support to get into University. During the first term, I put a lot of effort on my studies as my friend told me I am crazy. While the second term, I had been lazy for months and not really concentrate on my study which I realise my results are starting to dropping. This had made me gone into depression and I have to push myself harder and get back to the previous routine in order to do well at the end of term exam. Moreover, I am trying to improve my time management and schedule all my time to make sure I would not continue to do this bad routine. This laziness had taught me not to be lazy and wait everything gone to last minutes.

The subject I have been studying currently is Chemistry Biology and Pure Math 1. Both teachers have different teaching method. These three subject provide me with a basic knowledge to support me in my further studies. The Biology teaches me how does our body system works and different types mechanism do different work. Whereas in Chemistry, it teaches me the basic knowledge of different substances, how a reaction occurs when different substances are added to a solution and the kinetic theory of the chemistry. In Pure Math 1, I do not think that I am gaining new knowledge as almost all the topic I had learned in the Pure Math are the topic I had learnt during my high school years. So, learning Pure Math 1 is kind of like reflash back what I had learned when I was in high school. Other friends of mine, they said they also had learned those topics when they are in high school.

My class originally have 8 students, 3 Chinese, 2 Korean, 2 Hong Kongese and 1 Malaysian which is me and our girls to boys ratio is 3:5. At the end of the first term, one of the Korean girls in my class got sick and had to fly back to her own country to have treatment and ended up leaving our class and change to another foundation program. Whereas another Hong Kong guy, He found that science might be a bit difficult for him to cope with and lastly he changed to the business foundation. Whilst, there is a guy from China, his parent wants him to study business and not science. Lastly, our class only left 5 students which became a small class. I personally found that it is not easy to build a good relationship with the guy. The only Chinese guy is weird and strange which my tutor teacher also said that to him too. Another two guy from Korea and Hong Kong, I do not have common things to talk with them. Others than that, we do not have a common topic, I found that different mother language will affect how our relationship would be, especially they both are guys. The Korean guy speaks Korean and the Hong Kongese speaks Cantonese. As a Malaysian, I am able to speak Mandarin, this is because I am a Malaysian Chinese. My great-grandparents are from China and they migrate to Malaysia in the 1900s. Many people thought that Malaysian people cannot speak Mandarin but this depends on our ethnicity but nowadays not only Malaysian Chinese learn Mandarin, some Malays and Indian learn Mandarin too. Thus, although the Hong Kongese guy is Chinese, his he cannot really understand mandarin much. It is weird to speak English to Chinese people. In fact, I am close to a girl in my class. As a girl, girls are close to girls.

Although this might be a hard time for me to get through. I believe that once I went through everything would be fine.
