My heart leaps up when I behold
 A rainbow in the sky:
So was it when my life began;
So is it now I am a man;
So be it when I shall grow old,
 Or let me die!
The Child is father of the Man;
And I could wish my days to be
Bound each to each by natural piety.

1 In the text the poet shows his happiness when he sees the rainbow.

The poet says when he sees it, he feels happy.

2 The poem begins with the beautiful rural scenery of the rainbow

in the sky, but this is not just a landscape, but an experience

that can arouse positive emotions, in fact thanks to

this vision his heart leaps up.

3 To him being in close physical contact with nature fills his life with over joy. He says that this has been a continuous relationship when he was born, now and will always be, and if he loses this bound with nature he prefers to die.

4 in line 7 there is a paradox (“The child is father of the man”): he declares that children are superior to men because of their proximity to nature.
