I believe that the Bourgeoisie Liberal Revolution played a key role in sustaining him. Prior to the revolution, humanity was barely existent, with all the power in the hands of a few. However, with the start of the revolution, the mindset evolved, allowing Grenouille to be sent to a foster care. The Age of Enlightenment provided background to the many scientific outbreaks, like how Grenouille is pushing the boundaries of the “normal methods” to create his new distinct perfume. The Age of Revolution also explained the up-rise of the middle-class. This explained why people started to care more about their physical appearance and their “scent”.

- The putrid and stinking setting of Paris provides contrast to Grenouille’s higher goals (of finding the perfect scent) and gives the audience an ole-factorial experience of the society of the time. 
- The region of southern France where Grenouille carries out most of the murders is famous for its specialties in scents and perfume making, which closely relates to the theme of the book and gives a good setting for Grenouille’s exploration in perfumery.
