 March 15, 2011: Syrians took to the streets, peacefully protesting against the Al-Ashaad regime and ended up being arrested by government troops. 

• The movement spread throughout the country and less than a year later, devolved into violence. 
• Currently, Syria is split in between the government (which is backed by Russia) and various rebel factions (some of which are backed by the US). 
  • The prevalence of violence, destruction and lack of infrastructures has left many Syrians without access to basic necessities/rights, such as medical care, clean water, food and education.

• People within this demographic tend to be referred to as climate change refugees. Currently, efforts to fight climate change have begun to take root all over the world (especially in or for those countries that will be most affected and unable to fight back on their own). 
• Environmentalists, activists and climate scientists fear that it’s already too late to reverse the effects of climate change, and that all we can do is attempt to slow it down instead.
