I generally use combination of course book materials and authentic materials. Which one I will use depends of the grades and the materials. For example, for the 8 graders I choose to use course book because it is suitable for their level and time saving. We are preparing them for LGS so we May not have enough time to prepare other materials. Of course,while I am using the course book materials, I adapt them and I prepare different tasks. And for the younger groups, I can use authentic materials because they are richer and more intriguing. Also students will be exposed to the real world communication better with the help of the authentic materials.

I think todays session was useful. I enjoyed building relationships and learning new knowledge. I learned a lot of things from my peers and we shared our opinions. I think it will also affect my teaching style and help my students to have better communication skills.

I think the most common problem is that they are afraid of making mistakes. They are not efficient in the target language and peer pressure is a problem among teenage students.

I think to cope with this problem;

Teachers should not correct the students in front of the other student. That may cause discouragement for the students, especially the weaker ones.

We should also make them feel valued. We can say “You are important for me and I want to hear your opinion. Even if you have mistakes I want to listen to you.”

I think speaking skill is mostly about communication. I give them as examples, there are a couple of foreign celebrities in Turkey. They are not good at using Turkish grammar but we can understand them and also we like them. In my opinion, this kind of sentences encourage the students more.

For pre-reading, I would show a nice video about global warming because open ended questions prepare the students to the topic but they do not attract their attentions of weaker students. After that I would ask the open ended questions in the book to the stronger ones. For the gist task, I would erase the headline and want students to find a proper headline. For detailing reading task, I would keep the true/false questions but I would want the stronger students to correct the mistakes. And post reading park, I would want student to prepare a poster about results of global warming.

Our students like reading more than the other skills in English because they are more accustomed to it. However, of course there are students that are not willing to learn English at all so they also do not want to do reading activities. Their reluctance sometimes affects the other students too. Or sometimes we prepare our tasks according to the level of weaker students and stronger student finish their task and cause disturbance in the classroom. Monitoring task 5 can solve this problem. In my opinion, it will increase their awareness. I think other teachers will love this task in the PDC meeting too.

Process writing would be useful for my Class. I can use brainstorming or discussion as pre-writing before starting the process. Students could criticise and discuss the topic together so it will be more meaningful.

I think our colleagues will like the idea of digitalizing the writing task. This make the task more enjoyable. In my opinion, other teachers would like to learn some Web2 tools for writing task. I did not know padlet before. After I learned this, I thought I could use this as homework. If my colleagues do not know, I can introduce them and I am sure they will like it.

Today's grammar section, I like guided activities best. I do not want my students to be too controlled or too free (because sometimes they feel nervous about being free). I prefer teaching grammer implicitly; however, sometimes it is too time consuming.

I think I should discuss freer activities with my collegues because most of the teachers in Turkey use controlled ones. Also, I think only using controlled activities blocks productive skills

q1: We al have experienced some problems in our classrooms or with our students. I know that I am not alone but only knowing this does not confort me. I want to share my problems and find proper solutions. I will share my experiences with the other teachers who have similar experiences with me. We can find solutions to our problems together. I think it is the greatest benefit.

q2: We spend quite a long time together with my classmates throughout the facilitator training program. I made a lot of friend, they are not only my colleagues right now. I know their contact numbers and I am sure that they will be happy to help if I need any. Either it can be about classroom problems or PDC meeting problems.

q3: The most beneficial part of the todays session was 'question and answer' part at the end of the session. We were worried about our future PDC meetings and you answered our question warmly. That reduced our anxiety. I know you want us to answer it with activities but the question and answer part was better help than the activities.
