The Stamp Act was made to raise money in the American Colonies. After the French and Indian War the British had 120 Million dollars in debt and went to the American Colonies to pay it off because the point of the American Colonies was to make money for the British. The people of the American Colonies did not like the Stamp Act and it led to many riots and attacks in revolt to the Stamp Act.

The British Parliament passed the Stamp Act on March 22nd 1765. The Stamp act is a required tax that all colonists had to pay. It takes things made out of paper like playing cards, documents and others. The British Parliament made it impossible to not pay the tax when buying paper goods. The colonists did not like the stamp act, so they started boycotting the stamp act. “NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION!” This was the big saying in the colonies. This went against the British constitution to be forced to pay a tax which they have not agreed to pay.

Charles Townshend of the British Parliament made the Townshends act to raise revenue in the colonies. The townshend act put taxes on tea, paper, led and others. These acts angered the colonists and after the stamp act they knew that they could use boycotts and protests to get their way. They started to boycott the tax and had protests again.

After months of boycotts, and protests the British Parliament finally got rid of the stamp act. The colonists couldn’t be happy for long because the same day that the parliament got rid of the Stamp act they added the declaratory acts. The Stamp Act caused many revolts, protests and boycotts in the American colonies. These would make the colonies angry and eventually lead to the revolutionary war.

George Washington would get information from his spies and then use it to his advantage. His spies got information from a British spy (Benedict Arnold) that the British were going to ambush the 6,000 French soldiers that were landing in Rhode Island to help the Americans. He then created a rumor that he was going to attack New York City where the British were. The British kept all the soldiers there to protect against the fake attack.

Did the same thing later on to help the French win the Battle of Chesapeake by creating another fake rumor about an attack on New York City. The British didn't reinforce Yorktown, Virginia and lost.

In the 1760’s the British were in a ton of debt. They went to the American colonists to help relieve the debt. In 1765 the British Parliament made the stamp act to tax everything made out of paper. In 1767 the British Parliament introduced the townshend act to replace the stamp act. It taxed things like paper, led, tea, glass and paint. The Boston Tea Party was in retaliation from all of the taxes like, the stamp act, and sugar act, and also the tea act. All of these taxes infuriated the colonists. Once a ship goes into the harbor they can’t unload it. There are people whose job it is to unload the boats and take the shipment to where it is supposed to go. They have 30 days to unload it after the ship pulls into the harbor. The sons of liberty asked the British to send the tea back. On the 29th day the British Parliament told them that they aren’t going to send the tea back.

On the night of December 16th 1773, a large group of men, who were a part of the sons of liberty, dressed up as native americans and boarded the docked british ships. They found the chests filled with tea and threw 342 of the creates into the Boston harbor. It took around 100 colonists to empty the tea from the harbor. Which would have cost around 1 million dollars today.

The American Merchants couldn’t sell tea. Only British Merchants could sell the tea. American Merchants that sold mostly tea went out of business. This angered the Americans.

Intolerable acts were 4 laws to punish boston. Lead Coercive Acts. First Law, Boston harbor closed until the harbor was cleaned. Number 2, the Americans couldn’t hold any town meetings. Only 1 a year unless passed by the British parliament. 3, Any american caught smuggling goods were sent to England or Canada for their trial. The English jury would be more likely to convict you. 4, The British soldiers were sent to Boston and were allowed to stay in their houses and they had to provide for them. General Thomas Gage becomes the mayor and no one likes him. Kicks out John Hancock, who is really rich. The sons of liberty find out through spies they are going to arrest john adams and john hancock and take their guns and gunpowder.

In response the Americans made the first continental congress in Philadelphia. Agreed to do two things. The other colonies will rally behind the Massachusetts. Pretty much the people of the founding fathers. First thing to boycott British goods. Tell every colony to have their militia ready incase this goes bad. This creates every colony to have their own minutemen. Soldiers who could be ready at a minute's notice.

Tensions were high in Boston during 1770 between the British soldiers and the colonists. The soldiers occupied their city of Boston as well as they enforced the British tax laws. On March 5th one soldier was guarding the king's money and the colonists started insulting and threatening the soldier. The soldier decides to fight back and strike a colonist with his bayonet. Colonists began to throw ice, snowballs, and stones. The colonists call reinforcements and so do the soldiers. Violence gets more intense and the soldiers have their guns ready to fire, someone says “fire” one soldier (who was hit with a club) fires then all the other soldiers follow, killing 5 colonists and several wounded.

Showed that the British were the “instigators” even though colonists started. Show that soldiers were cruel men and the colonists were gentlemen. The unfair taxation and aftermath of the boston massacre roused them to fight for independence. Colonists continue their rebellion and lead to the Boston tea party and the American Revolution. The soldiers are professionals and they shouldn’t have panicked. The whole thing didn't even have to happen.

When the British were finally forced to leave Boston in March of 1776, George Washington knew they would be back soon. The best port in America was New York City and Washington correctly guessed that the British would attack New York first. He ordered them to start preparing to defend the city. The British Navy arrived off the coast of New York in July. They set up on Staten Island. The British sent across men to negotiate with Washington. They offered him a pardon from the king if he would surrender, but he replied that "Those who have committed no fault want no pardon."

On August 22, the British began sending troops on Long Island. The Americans remained in their defensive positions and waited for the British to attack.

African Americans played a really important role in the revolution. They fought at many different battles as well as a slave helped row Washington across the Delaware river! African Americans also served as gunners, sailors and in the Continental Navy during the Revolution. Enslaved Blacks choose whatever side that would help them gain their freedom. Dunmore’s Proclamation inspired thousands of enslaved people to risk their lives in search of freedom.
