Question #1 Academic integrity policy

As a HFC student, I promise to follow the Academic Integrity Policy and always be truthful in my work. I know that doing my own work and giving credit to others shows that I respect learning, my teachers, and my classmates. Cheating, copying, and other dishonest actions hurt my learning and make my HFC grade mean less. I understand there are consequences if I break this rule, so I want to avoid them by being honest in everything I do. By following these rules, I help make HFC a fair and respectful place for everyone. I believe being truthful in my work will help me build good habits for the future.

Question 2: I chose the topic “Effects of Meditation on Our Brains” and found a helpful article called “The Science Behind Meditation and How It Changes the Brain” on Very well Mind. This article explains how meditation helps people manage stress, improves memory, and helps them feel calmer. It says meditation can change parts of the brain linked to attention and emotions, helping people feel less anxious and more focused. This article agrees with Real World Psychology because the book also explains that meditation helps people control stress (Chapter 2, section on stress reduction). One difference is that while the article focuses on how meditation actually changes brain structure, the book talks more about how it changes our reactions to stress (Chapter 2, “Managing Stress”). I believe this article is credible because Very well Mind has professionals and experts reviewing its content, making it a trustworthy source for health information.

Question 3: For Question 3, I chose to use ChatGPT to research the topic “Effects of Team Sports on Mental Health.” ChatGPT said that playing team sports is good for mental health because it builds confidence, encourages social connections, and helps people deal with stress. It mentioned that physical activity releases chemicals called endorphins that make people feel happier and more relaxed.

Question 4: Comparing the information from ChatGPT to Real World Psychology, I noticed some similarities and differences. First, both ChatGPT and the textbook talk about how physical activity can reduce stress because of endorphins, which boost mood (Chapter 3, “Benefits of Physical Activity”). Another point of comparison is that while ChatGPT focused on general mental health benefits, our textbook goes further by explaining how team sports help develop social skills, like teamwork and communication, which are also important for mental health (Chapter 3, section on “Social Benefits of Physical Activity”). These extra details made the textbook’s explanation feel more complete.

Question 5: When I was younger, I experienced classical conditioning with bedtime music. Every night, my mom would play calming music right before I went to bed. After a while, I started feeling sleepy as soon as I heard that music, even if it wasn’t actually bedtime. This made me realize that I had started to associate the music with bedtime, and it would automatically make me feel tired.

Question #6

Question 6: Breaking down my example from Question 5, I can identify the classical conditioning elements: the music was initially a Neutral Stimulus (NS) because it didn’t make me sleepy on its own. Bedtime was the Unconditioned Stimulus (UCS) since it naturally made me feel tired. The sleepiness I felt was the Unconditioned Response (UCR). Eventually, the music became a Conditioned Stimulus (CS) because I learned to associate it with bedtime, and it made me feel sleepy (Conditioned Response, CR), even if it wasn’t actually bedtime. These elements fit because the music changed from neutral to a signal for sleepiness through repetition.

Question #7

Question 7: In my example, I noticed two principles of conditioning: generalization and extinction. First, I experienced generalization because any soft music, not just my bedtime song, would start making me feel tired. This means I generalized my response to similar sounds. Later on, I experienced extinction because when the bedtime music wasn’t played anymore, I stopped feeling sleepy whenever I heard it. This shows that my conditioned response faded away when the association was broken, as the book describes.

Question 8: This was my first time using AI for a class project, and it was interesting. I liked that AI made it quick and easy to find information, but sometimes it only gave basic answers and didn’t go as deep as my textbook did. I think the information was mostly accurate, but next time, I would double-check what the AI says with other sources to make sure it’s fully reliable. If I use AI again, I might also ask it follow-up questions if I need more detail. Overall, I thought it was a helpful experience, but there are a few things I’d change next time.
