I have an older sister who goes to Carroll University and a younger brother who goes to Meadow Brooke Elementary School. I have 2 dogs and 2 cats that are absolutely adorable 🥹

I do some extra curricular activities here at north. I have been in the drama club for 4 years and have been a stage manager form3 of those years. I was in the color guard for our marching band for 3 years (I unfortunately couldn’t do it my freshman year because of COVID 😭), and I was a color guard captain for 2 of those years!

My plan for next year is going to UW-Oshkosh to major in Kinesiology (Kinesiology) and hopefully later continue into a Pre-Physical Therapist track for graduate school either there or hopefully at Carroll!

The poem is about a grandfather writing this poem about his newly born granddaughter. The poem begins with him talking about her being just born, describing her petite features and their age gap. In the middle of the poem he talks about her future—being an adult and having her own life and her own kids. Finally, the poem ends with him talking about her sharing the poem and how she can read the message he stated when he is gone. The underlying message of this poem is that although someone might not always be there physically, they will always be there emotionally and mentally there (with love).

I found many poetic techniques in the poem. For instance, one line that stood out was “… I know you will have read them this so they will know I love them and say so and love their mother.” This line is important because the writer is pushing out the message of loving his family. I also found an interesting image in line “a day I watched awhile beside your bed, I wrote this down, a thing that might be kept awhile…” The image gives the poem an emotional effect of seeing this grandfather writing about his new granddaughter right on her bedside. Finally, the sound of the poem is characterized by its reminiscing tone. It gives the poem the feeling of reflecting into the future, being able to image something so cherishing.

I can find connections to this memory poem because I’ve had many things given to me to show my family members love even when they’re gone.
