The best way of prevention is being vaccinated for the infection. The vaccines for this are Tdap and DTaP. Both of these allows for the vaccinated individual to never acquire Pertussis. Good hygiene and being aware of surroundings are helpful as well. If the infection is contracted, the best treatment is a course of prescribed antibiotic course that will help get rid of the bacteria. While getting treated, it is important to stay hydrated and keep food down without vomiting. It is also recommended to keep irritants out of the respiratory tract and keep yourself in a clean environment.
Fact: Getting whooping cough provides immunity but that is not prolonged for life.
