Enzymes are substances made of protein that help stimulate chemical reactions. An enzyme in saliva called amylase, for example, helps break down starch in your mouth. Enzymes occur naturally throughout your body. They're also found in foods and dietary supplements.

Enzymes are very important as they help the body to function properly. Without enzymes the body wouldn’t work properly and basic functions are not carried out. This can result in not being able to breathe, swallow, drink, eat or digest your food. If there were no enzymes in our bodies we wouldn’t exist. They carry out simple functions that we couldn’t live without. Enzymes help us to digest our food by breaking it down into smaller parts which can be used for different things in our body. Different enzymes break down different types of food, for example carbohydrates which are then broken down into glucose which gets used as energy.

Enzymes are important to human digestion because they allow for the nutrients ingested to be turned into molecules small enough to be useful. The role of enzymes is to turn nutrients into small molecules, such as carbohydrates, proteins and lipids. Through the use of their corresponding enzymes (carbohydrase (and amylase), protease and lipase), these nutrients are broken down into molecules small enough to be ingested into the bloodstream. This gives all body cells the nutrients they need to function - which is why without enzymes, body cells - and therefore the body - would not be able to function. Consequently, this is why enzymes are majorly important to human digestion as without them the body would not be able to digest food and therefore function.

Lydia Colla

For example, when we digest proteins (which help create energy for our body and brain), the enzyme inside of us break them down and turn them into nutrients for our body to use. These nutrients are vital for a healthy lifestyle. They keep us full, strong, energetic and allow organs in our body to function. Without these enzymes, living wouldn't be even possible! Therefore, enzymes play a vital role in the human body.

Scientists have found that enzymes are vital for a healthy digestive system and that they work alongside stomach acid and bile to help the breakdown of food into molecules to help a wide range of bodily functions. Without enzymes the breakdown of food into molecules would be harder for the body and this makes enzymes vital for the human digestive system. Therefore, enzymes are a very important part of the human digestive system and they work to make sure that our digestive system is healthy.

Enzymes are special proteins that break down our food (larger molecules) into smaller molecules like carbohydrates, proteins and lipids. These enzymes consist of amylase, protease, carbohydrase and lipase. Particular enzymes break down particular foods. Once these foods are broken down and are small molecules they can be used to give our body nutrition and energy to go about our daily lives.

Enzymes are vital for life and serve a wide range of important functions in the body, such as aiding in digestion and metabolism. There are 4 types of enzymes all of which have extremely vital roles in the human body, especially digestion. These include Oxidoreductases, Transferases, Hydrolases and Lyases. Oxidoreductases is an enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of electrons from one molecule and they serve an important role in helping aerobic and anaerobic metabolism. Transferases regulate the process of fermentation they are the fundamental enzymes of the cell detoxification system and substrates to produce less toxic compounds. Hydrolases use water to cleave chemical bonds and they carry out important degradative reactions in the body. Lyases catalyzes the cleavage, breaking various chemical bonds. Enzymes are essential for healthy digestion and a healthy body. They work with other chemicals in the body, such as stomach acid and bile, to help break down food into molecules for a wide range of bodily functions.
Scarlette, Evie and Sophie

Enzymes are very important to the human body. They increase the digestive process and helps break down the food you intake and digest. There are over 700 enzymes in your body, and they are used in different ways to break down each food group. For example when we digest protein the enzyme amino works to breaks it down and uses it for nutrients. Without enzymes, it would be extremely hard for the body to break down all the nutrients and food your are digesting. Therefore enzymes are vital in the human lifestyle and help us have the right amount of nutrients stored in our body.

Enzymes are important in human digestion because they speed up the digestive system and do not use much energy. Enzymes are a chemical process found naturally in the body, meaning it uses up less energy as it is a chemical reaction. There are many types of enzymes that dissolve particular types of food. This chemical process is important because it speeds up the digestive system and does not use too much energy meaning the body is able to function. Enzymes keep us alive as normal chemical processes would be too slow without enzymes

Enzymes are proteins that help to speed the process of digestion by breaking up large and complicated molecules and changing them into simpler forms. It is a chemical reaction that speeds the process of breaking down food. They are essential for respiration, digesting food, muscle and nerve function, among thousands of other roles. The chemical reactions that keep us alive - our metabolism - rely on the work that enzymes carry out. Enzymes are crucial for our body.

They help break it down so it is easy to digest. After they are done they go and help another molecule.

Enzymes make a colossal impact on the human body. Without Enzymes reactions in the body will be too slow to function and inevitably the body wouldn’t be able to survive. Enzymes are vital to the human body they quicken the rate of chemical reactions e.g. Protease Break down proteins into amino acids. Without all of these reactions we would not be accessing the critical substances (fats, glucose, amino acids) we need in order to survive. BBC.co Digestive Systems notes state ‘Food has to be broken down chemically into really small particles before it can be absorbed. Enzymes are biological catalysts needed to make this happen quickly enough to be useful.’ This phrase indicates that enzymes are essential to break down food so we get the nutrients we need to stay alive. Enzymes are extremely important in the digestive system because they break down complex food particles into smaller digestible foods.
