Types of Tests

There are two types of tests, Blood and Urine tests. For urine tests you may need to pee in a cup or on a strip. For blood tests, your blood gets drawn and tested. All pregnancy tests test for HCG (Human Chorioric Gonadotropin).

When To Test

You can test as early as 7 days after ovulation, but 14 days is most accurate. Your body will not produce HCG until the zygote implants, which is 7-9 days after fertilization. HCG rises over the course of pregnancy, so waiting will produce a more accurate result, but don't wait too long. Some signs may be implantation bleeding (bleeding from the implantation of the zygote). For Urine tests, it is best to test early in the morning to allow HCG to build up in your urine and it is most accurate ~1 week after your missed period.

False Positives

False positives can be cause by waiting too long before you check the strip, or taking drugs that contain HCG, which is what the tests test for. Your body does not produce HCG unless you're pregnant.

False Negatives

False Negatives can be caused by testing too early or simple user errors.

The difference

Qualitative tests, like urine tests simple test if you are pregnant or not, a simple "yes or no" test.

Quantitive Tests like blood tests test the levels of HCG in your system and can tell how far along you are.

If you are pregnant, you need to go to the doctor and get tests done. This includes pap smears, pelvic exams, Blood tests, weight testing, Blood pressure, and ultrasounds.
