This is true, I have found that the most I have learned from my profession has been from other teachers. Point Loma does a great job at preparing us with excellent tools but out peers are often the people we learn from the most.

There is a lot different areas of study and sciences that a teacher has to learn. Being a teacher is more than just education. There is a lot psychology, sociology, and at times social work that has to be considered.

I believe that is important to help students learn of the importance of becoming masters of their own learning. There is a lot of power in holding space for student's learning.

We are all shaped by our surroundings and society's believes. Our jobs as teachers are also shaped by our backgrounds. It is always important to keep that in consideration.

I think that reflection is a great way to learn about ourselves and out jobs. There is not enough time in our day to think of reflecting about the work we do. I wish there was time assigned for this task.

I think it so important to be introspective when we work with students. It important to be aware of our privileges and our barriers. Ignoring those factors can hinder our ability to offer equity in our classrooms.

The background we come from can completely shape our outlook in life.

Our beliefs help us establish how we set up our classroom, interact with our students, and ultimately how we teach our students.

This is one way some teacher believe is their purpose in being a teacher, to help students be a better version of themselves in all areas, not just academically.

Some teacher belief that they are to give the students the knowledge to be good productive members of society, not necessarily to reach their full potential.

Some teachers believe that knowledge is best and can be used to achieve a successful life because if you continue to learn you will always be a better version of yourself.

Students need to have a relationship with their teachers. They need to be able to trust their teacher and which in turn becomes a tool be a better educator to that student. You cannot be a productive teacher and not form a relationship with your students. If you do not, it makes it harder for students to WANT to learn from you.

Some teachers, based off their personalities and belief system, communicate more effectively by being direct with their students, telling them exactly what they should be doing, whereas some teachers communicate with their students by non-verbal cues or vague comments. Both ways are not right or wrong but it can be argued that being implicit is beneficial for students critical thinking skills. Overall both forms are needed in the classroom.

One of my beliefs as a special education teacher is that I don't care what you can't do but I care about what you can do. For my students, they know that I will always celebrate all of their successes, no matter how big or small they may be. A lot of my students have been told what they can't do for many years of their education and I wanted to spin it as a positive. That is real and true to them.
