As a kid I loved dr seuss books, they brought joy to me as my mom read the words out loud. When I was young I never knew the lessons that apply to real life situations. In the book Horton hears a who by Dr.Suess, Horton teaches us to never give up. He teaches to never give up when everyone was doubting him, when he plucked countless clovers to find the right one, lastly when he got tied up. As you can see Horton gets into a lot of trouble, but despite the obstacles, he kept pushing through and never gave up along the way.

One way Horton never gave up was when everyone doubted him,he still kept pushing to save the clover. For example Horton was holding the dust and suddenly the sour kangaroo marched up and scoffed at him saying,“Why that speck as small as the head of a pin. A person on that? Why, there has never been!” Horton responds, “I tell you sincerely, my ears are quite keen and I hear him quite clearly. I know there's a person down there.” This shows although the sour kangaroo scoffed at him, Horton didn't stop believing the people were on the dust speck. Another example is that when he was walking through the jungle with his speck, news quickly spread. The jungle animals taunted him saying, “he talks to a dust speck, he's out of his head!” Horton was unsure, should he put the dust speck down? But Horton kept going, ignoring the mean jungle animals. This shows that he was going to put it down but never gave up and kept going with the speck in his trunk. As you can see Horton had some times where he was unsure of putting the speck down, but despite the obstacles along the way he never let go of the speck.

Another way Horton never gave up was when he plucked all the clovers to find the right one. For example evil Vlad Vladicoff stole the clover and flew away with it. Soon enough he dropped it in a pile of countless clovers, and Horton was left there to find the clover with the tiny dust speck on it. Horton was so determined to find the clover that he said, “I’ll find it or I'll bust.” This shows just how determined Horton is even saying that he’ll bust, just to find the right clover. Another example is that he plucked for hours, days! To find the dust speck. It took him the 3 millionth clover to find the right one, but he never gave up. This proves just how brave and determined he is to find the clover. This also proves that he will do anything for the people no matter how small. As you can see Horton wants to save these tiny people, and prove that there are people on the clover, and he will do everything in his way to prove to the other animals that there are people on the dust.

The last way Horton never gave up was when he got tied up by the Whickersham brothers. For example the Whikersham brothers and the sour kangaroo marched up to Horton and the clover, and they said “On chatting with persons who’ve never existed. Such carryings-on in our peaceable jungle.” They were going to rope Horton and take away the clover unless he could make the people scream the loudest. He screamed to the dust to keep trying to make them heard, so the sour kangaroo could hear them and change his mind. Horton says, “Mr mayor! You’ve got to prove now that you're really there!” This shows that even though everything looks blue for Horton, he’s trying his best to try one last time to maybe convince the Whickersham brothers and the sour kangaroo that there are people on the clover and they should be spared. Another example was he was getting caged and pushed around but he still kept fighting despite the situation he was in. The book states, “Horton fought back with vigor and vim.” This shows that through everything he’s been through he won’t give up just because he's being caged. As you can see Horton is the bravest elephant around. He won't give up on any circumstances even if he has to do everything to save the clover.

As you can see one of the lessons that Dr Suess teaches us is to never give up even if the challenge is terribly hard. That's what Horton teaches us throughout this book. Horton teaches us to never give up. He teaches us to never give up, when everyone doubts him, when he plucked all the clovers to find the right one, lastly he got tied up by the Wickersham brothers. All these have a common theme to never give up.
