This song relates to WWII because it came from a musical about the war. It basically is describing what life, for men, was like during the war, since it comes from their point of view. This song also benefited from the Army Emergency Relief Fund. In the song it says, " No private rooms or telephones." which was exactly what was happening during the war. They were always together and had hardly any privacy.

The song "This is the Army, Mr.Jones" came from an American wartime stage musical called This Is the Army. The song shows how men were expected to act while in service. For example when the song mentions some men having a housemaid to clean for them, but she won't be helping the men clean anymore.

My interpretation of this song, is that it describes the war from the soldiers' point of view. It explains what the men had left behind and what they've been thrown into.

It's almost kind of odd, this song. Songs like these are normally supposed to be patriotic and hardy. In a way, this song is patriotic, but in a different way. This song highlights a lot of the negative sides of joining the army.
