1. It is to show the irony on the people in America whereby they show pity for the death of an important person but do not  
2. Those pictures were used to show the irony and create a gloomy atmosphere. 
3. The target audience are people who disregard the deaths of millions of Africans and yet mourn over the death of 'famous' Steve Jobs. 
4. They highlight and emphasize the point in the picture; the apple logo and the map of Africa. Using shades of black and white (and a gloomy blue background) makes it impactful.
