NOTE & REPORT on staying in character

Please report what it was like to "stay in character" physically during the exercise. Try to answer these questions as here:
1. What does it feel like to be this character?
To be this character is great in some areas but not so great another. The physical side was great because I can see and know what my character's physical side is. I know what my character's posture would be like, so what I did was look in front of a mirror to get into a tall and masculine way of standing. I still need to practice more ways of standing more like a man even with facial expressions. For exp: Angry, Happy, Sad & Confused.

2. What physical characteristics are most similar to you (yourself)

His physical characteristics are most similar to myself when I am walking, sitting down or even doing something like smiling. Also, we are both of medium height and build.

3. What physical characteristics are most different to you (yourself)?
My physical characteristics are most different to Gregor because I am not a man and my character is a man, also I am Black and he is White. I think Gregor is older than me, I think he is 46 years old but I have just turned 21.

4. How challenging is it to be "in this character"?
It isn't that difficult to be in this character. First of all I use a mirror to try and fix my face to become the character or change the way I am, my mouth and lips, to reflect the character. I think that Gregor has a particular way of walking and I try to mimic that, both when he is a Man and also when he is a Bug. As a Bug I will twist myself into different positions on the floor. As a Man I would walk as I would normally walk, but in my own way.

5. How can you make this character more different from you?
I am not going to walk how I normally walk or do some things how I would normally do them. For example, a person may have an old injury somewhere, like their Arm, Leg or even Finger, which makes them move in a certain way. I would use the mirror technique, I would use somethings that I would naturally do, and write them down so I would not forget them. E.g. Gregor might do this if he is upset or that if he is excited. I imagine that Gregor speak in a posh English way, so I would change the tone of my voice to suit that. I can go low or high depending on whatever would suit the moment.

6. What do you need to explore/develop to make this character distinctive and unique?

I need to work harder on my facial expressions to be more Manly and also the way that I walk. I want to step into a World that my character is in. I want to step into my character and become him with my face, my body, the way that I walk and my voice. These days men are different to how they were in the Fifties, which is when I think this is set. So I want to be more 'Old School'.

Putting God first is important for me to always put Him first.

What steps do you have to take to get these 3 important visions?

I.
STANISLAVSKI Principles and Ideas

Upload notes on each of the three principles in your own words.

Principle 1: Biographies
"Characters are like real people and they are produced through their biographies"

This principle refers to a method of a character building that helps the actor pinpoint facts about their character, by writing a biography that outlines key moments in their lives and facts that would be included in any other persons biography.

His real name was Konstantin Sergeyevich Alexeyev, but he adopted Stanislavski as a stage name in 1884. Born in Russia in 1863, he's in a life of considerable comfort, as a member of one of the most affluent families in Russia.
At the age of 75, he died in 1938. His family loved the theatre and he was able to indulge in amateur theatricals as a boy. But when he took a stage name, it was to conceal his theatrical work from his family. However, in 1887, he had his father’s approval and eventually became an established figure.

As a theatrical practitioner, he made careful notes and evaluated his work, as a habit that he followed from the first steps in his career. Later, he write major texts on the art of performance:

My Life in Art

An Actor Prepares

Building a Character

Creating a Role

Principle 2: Objectives
The context for the character can help define their objective, as it would help change how they would respond to certain characters and events. This can help the actor lead to their Super Objective.

Naturalism is often used to refer to the same things but it can also mean the belief that a human. It is often used to refer to the same things, but it can also mean the belief that a human character is formed by what they’ve inherited from their family and environment.
Stanislavski believed that it's better for actors to be true to their feelings, as it can enhance their performances.

Subtext can hold the character, meaning the subtle character traits they do, e.g. touching their ear when they lie. They can also lead to their objective.
As people, we're built up with behaviour. If there's something happening, there's a specific way people would react. We are trained to react in a certain way. This links to the theory of behaviourism.
Behaviorism emphasizes the role of environmental factors in influencing behavior, to the near exclusion of innate or inherited factors. This amounts essentially to a focus on learning.

We learn new behavior through classical or operant conditioning (known as 'learning theory').

Therefore, when their born, our mind is 'tabula rasa' (a blank slate).

Example: the idea of a dog treated in an abusive manner. It is known that the dog wouldn't necessarily react to other people in a polite manner.

Principle 3: Given Circumstances
The actors should make an initial examination of the text, so they can gather information about the characters.

Each actor plays a character who has been given different examples of Circumstances:
Situations
Relationships
History
Physical Characteristics
Time
Place

Not only that, they also get some questions, based on the 5 W's (who, what, where, how, why):
What time is it?
Where am I?
What is it I want?
What are the given circumstances?
How do I get what I want?
What is happening?

The given circumstances provide information to the characters depth (that makes it easier for the performer to make creative decisions - how they REACT to the given circumstances).

People can get caught in LOOPS of BEHAVIOUR - where the things that work for them in life, as they tend to repeat, however, if things that do not work for them, they tend to avoid/not repeat. Sometimes, this is confusing though. People repeat things that get punished - this would imply they should avoid it, but it still gets them attention (which is perhaps lead the characters to get what they want).

Outline the physical character biography that you created.
Gregor has two part of himself one of him as a normal man and as a bug, but I am either of those things. I did find some of the work hard like the man thing because he is just sleeping, walking, eating and working, putting on cloths. Being a brother and son.

And I did find the bug side easy because the bug was me being myself on the floor putting on different and difficult positions.

The reason why I said the bug side of Gregor because I have a disability called Cerebral Palsy that those effects my body like my left hand, the way I walk, the way I talk, and the way I move my body.

Gregor being normal

Please watch both video below.

I use the floor a lot in this video because it was comfortable and where I put myself in difficult positions.

Explanation of how I got in the position of the bug.

1. I bent in different positions until I felt comfortable. First position I bent my head but it was uncomfortable and I did not like that because I could not move.

2. My second position I had to find a way of how to move, so I bent my arm into my legs, I tried to move but because I was on my bottom I could move a little bit.

3. My third position was bending both arms and legs and I could move. It felt comfortable for a while then my arms started to cramp.

4. My fourth position I twisted my legs in front of my body and then I started to move on the floor and that was comfortable. I did not feel so much pain.

Please watch both video below.
