Dr Lim Tai Wei:

ACSIP11 Presentation

Thank you for sharing the hard work.

Clear articulation and well-structured introduction

"$" signs in the PPT should state whether it is US$.

Useful rundown on the history of the Initiative under study

Useful to provide some parameters or caveat at the start of the presentation.

Useful introduction of methodology. Accessible for audience.

Useful explanation by region, e.g. the Central Asia case study by the second presenter.

Useful quantitative factors for defining that region.

Significance of the region is well-explained.

Explanation of caveats like the Russian case is well-explained.

2nd speaker can reduce speed of presentation just a little, it was a clear delivery.

3rd speaker focus on Vietnam was useful. Contrast with EU was helpful, perhaps explain again that you are comparing like entities by highlighting that your case studies in the presentation mainly focused on former Soviet states or satellites.

Perhaps the first speaker can explain the commonalities amongst the case studies covered in the presentation, particularly to explain their highlighting in the presentation. (some comparative elements helpful here). This point may already be covered in the paper. This feedback is mainly for the presentation.

Detailed rundown on the Kinshasa Rwanda case study useful.

Can condense the overall presentation further to give more time for the analytical sections (nearly ran out of time), especially for the 3rd speaker.

Useful policy recommendations for PGII. Can give more time for this.

Thank you for sharing your hard work.

DHSP2

Dr Lim Tai Wei:

Thank you for sharing the hard work.

Useful introduction and explanation of the BRI.

1st speaker has good moderate speed, clear diction.

Useful points about poverty alleviation for example.

Perhaps explain why there is a focus on South and Southeast Asia?

(1st speaker : "most resources directed to SEA and South Asia" --- perhaps provide some quantitative factors. And referring to mainly MSR or overland? Perhaps specify).

Perhaps provide a little explanation why the parameters were chosen.

Thank you for sharing the hard work.

Laotian-China railway was useful.

There was an abrupt jump from Laotian case study to Hambantota case study in Sri Lank. Perhaps provide some nexus or link.

Useful explanation on methodology.

2nd speaker:

Overall suggestion: what about China's own domestic factors and their impacts on the BRI. Or the team can specify in the introduction that they are focusing mainly on external-driven factors only. (some hints by 2nd speaker in the causal factors section but mainly in reference to external factors).

Useful infographics for audience.

Useful objective analysis of environmental implications.

Useful section on accessibility

Some materials on the positionality of BRI on overall Chinese foreign aid helpful.

Thank you for sharing the hard work.

NUSHSP1

Dr Lim Tai Wei:

Thank you for sharing the hard work.

Clear and well-structured introduction.

Useful explanation of the analytical lens.

Useful objective treatment of the Chinese perspective in addition to the realist zero sum game perspective.

Well-paced presentation. Clear Diction. Eloquent presentation and articulation.

Well-designed slides with useful complementary icons.

Clear detailed presentation of the Western perspective.

Useful explanation of Hambantota port case study and other examples in Pakistan for e.g.

Geopolitical analyses are rich in this presentation.

Are there hawkish elements from the Chinese side? Some hints provided, perhaps it is possible to name them, analysts/observers often mention the e.g.s of hawkish younger commanders/military officers, nationalists, angry youths ('fenqing'), the so-called '50 cents' influencers, younger generations raised under patriotic education since Jiang's era, etc.

It is also possible to mention that presenter is aware of these groups but will be focusing mainly on foreign policy elements/entities in his presentation's focus.

Pakistan example was well-detailed esp. its projects CPEC.

Useful outline of limitations of realism.

Thank you for sharing the hard work.

RIP4

Dr Lim Tai Wei:

Thank you for sharing the hard work.

Useful succinct mention of historical factor (maps at the center of tensions/disputes were not mentioned, perhaps one can state that this is not the focus of the presentation).

Useful attribution of authors from literatures that were reviewed.

Detailed lit review provided.

Vietnam's approach is a trendy topic in the subject matter now.

Thank you for sharing the hard work.

Moderate speed/pace of presentation with clear diction.

Focused on a hot button issue topic of SCS.

Sources mainly focused on think tanks and media articles. Any possibility of adding in primary documents from the governments/MFAs? Or the presenters can mention the focus is mainly on secondary sources with a brief explanation.

Importance of US market well explained.

Useful contrast of Viet and Phil approaches (is there a need to differentiate between Duterte and Marcos approaches?).

What about the growing partnership between Viet and Phil, including their recent CG joint exercises. Joint sports games in the past. Both are also acquiring Indian weapon systems. China's increasing presence in the redrawing of the baseline in the Gulf of Tonkin and flying of Chinese drones. Vietnam is building up artificial islands with greater speed. Will these factors change anything?

Thank you for your presentation and sharing.
