One element that differentiates itself from other Miyazaki’s films is the fact there is no “good guy” or “bad guy” label in the film.  As I mentioned, the character Lady Eboshi whose greed and ambition is apparent. Yet she has compassion for her fellow humans, especially those who have fallen sick. The other side consists of the forest gods who aren’t perfect either, as they are blinded by rage. Both sides are subjected to “flaws” and these are either blinded by hatred or greed. However, either side is labeled as the hero or villain. Choosing industry over nature can cause a destructive effect on the environment. This can be seen in the landscapes of cut down trees, the workings of Lady Eboshi. However, stopping advancement for the sake of nature leads to no growth. Miyazaki not only portrayed this in his film but also outside of it. Off screen, Miyazaki had been making animated films by hand drawing rather than computer generated animations. Now in Princess Mononoke, Miyazaki had effortlessly intertwined traditional animation with computer animation. She grew up to hate humans who damage the forest they live in. San is stubborn and short tempered and seems to hate her own humanity.
