I chose this book because the setting takes place in the fifties and it's one of my favorite era. I was considering a book called like, the light of the world, or something like that, but it was about science, so I said no to that. It's about three girls so I'm expecting drama. I think one of them is pregnant. I don't think it's part of a series. I think it might be kind of easy, but theres a movie about it, so I'm prepared to watch that for extra in a project. It seems like something I would normally read.

I don't really want to read it, and am having trouble picking it up to even begin to start. Then again, I'm on like page 15. It doesn't have a good hook and doesn't make me want to keep reading. The Hours left my expectations too high. I see why it won a Pulitzer Prize.

I forgot that the necklace was fake. I don't understand why you wouldn't just buy a fake necklace to return. I guess these people had morals. They could have just told their friend. It kinda reminded me of Cinderella, but reverse. She got a night to be fancy, but then it ruined the rest of her life and remained poor. I think the moral was like: don't try to have too much if you can't handle it

"Rappaccini's Daughter"

This story has a lot of metaphors. comparing her and the flowers to sisters "The human sister of those vegetable ones..." This story is actually a lot more demented than I thought it would be. Rappaccini actually makes poison in his garden and Beatrice is somehow attached. She grew up around the poisonous plants, a became a poison herself. She may look beautiful but evil is hiding within her. Giovanni loved her and tried to fix her. but she died!!!! I thought that the dark twist in the story was really cool. I could picture the garden the whole time, and then realizing she breathed poison. the whole garden in my mind changed to dark greens and purple.

It didn't have enough detail. It had a picture though, that was cool. Why did the neighbor hate him? something about a bridal? I don't understand why they were so mean to him. Why did he want string anyway? Most of these stories are intense. These characters are all poor or dead. There really was not much to this story.

“The Ransom of Red Chief”

This was the best story I read. It was placed in the old west and conversational grammar was wrong. "Bill and me" and "ought" are examples. They kidnap a boy, but the kids more than they bargained for. The kid is a pain to deal with. They ask his dad for money for the kid back, but the father asks for the kid back and to be paid. Bill even said that was worth it to get rid of the boy. The language they used made me laugh. These two kidnappers were definitely not bright. They end up running away to Canada and honestly thats so cliché and funny to me.

I wish I had more culture like that around here. I also love that they have rules to it. How to know when its suitable for humans again, and not the goddess' land anymore. I also liked that they described myths as romantic. "it's easy to put feelings and emotions and romance into it,"

"The name Bruno comes from baby times...[he] was always so confident, independent, really strong-willed and kind of a brute." He's such an amazing singer with a unique voice. I thought it was funny how he came over to the states and thought he'd make it big on covers. I'm sad that out of all his music that Uptown Funk won the grammy. He did so much better work.

I understand that they were for royalty, but they are also described as a "go-to symbol of seduction." It was a love food for the Mayan and Aztec upper class. In India they thought it could even cure illnesses. Chocolate has a lot more importance than it just being yummy!!!

Women tend to have positive emotions toward being given bad gifts, but men get a negative emotion toward the relationship. Also, people tend to like gifts close to the giver, not just something typical of the recipient. Gifts aren't the only happy thing about Christmas though, Family traditions are also a key part of the holiday.
