The contrasting blues, reds, pinks, and yellows also help the elements stand out and make the painting fun to look at. I also think this painting is very balanced because the elements take up the same amount of space on each side without being symmetrical.

This painting is powerful because it shows connection in a raw way. While Western views may see an animal eating a man as tragic, Morrisseau’s Anishinaabe worldview sees it as a transfer of power or spiritual merging.

The “X-ray” style reveals the inner life force and bones, showing the inside matters as much as the outside. Thick black lines define and connect the forms. Earthy colors like ochre, sienna, and deep teal create an ancient feeling. The organic shapes, shallow space, and flat paint with repeated dashes keep focus on the figures and suggest fur, bone, and energy.

The focal point is where the mouth meets the man’s head. Radiating lines create movement. The repeated X-ray forms create unity. The asymmetrical composition feels balanced, and the bold black lines against the light background create strong contrast.

This is my favorite Norval Morrisseau painting because of its bright, powerful colors and the strong black outlines that make every shape stand out. I love how the tree looks alive, with colorful leaves, flowers, and birds all connected by flowing lines. It feels like everything in the painting is related and working together, which shows Morrisseau’s belief in the connection between nature, animals, and people.

The bold purples, reds, blues, and yellows make the artwork feel joyful and full of energy. Even though the shapes are simple, they tell a deeper story about life and spirit. This painting makes me feel calm but also inspired, and that is why it is my favorite.

I like this painting the most, I like it because of the colour choices and how there is not lots of empty space. I also like it because I think birds, butterflies, and flowers are very beautiful and I like how the shapes and sizes vary. I also like it because they all blend together and nothing sticks out and nothing feels out of place. I think they are relatively symmetrical and even so the painting feels balanced, I think it also uses emphasis on the biggest flower in the middle because he makes it look look like eveything is connected to it and all the flowers are coming out of it, he uses movement by not letting everything face the same way which makes it look like everything is moving induvidualy and it makes the leaves look like they are swaying, and he uses warm and cool colors to contrast with each other, he also uses solid colors and that makes it feel less complicated or too busy.

These animals normally live in completely different environments (water and air), so combining them into one form creates visual tension and makes the viewer think more deeply about the meaning behind the image.

This painting titled, “The Medicine Man”, is my favorite painting by Morrisseau because it reminds me of the painting called “The Kiss”, by Gustav Klimt which I had multiple copies of in my childhood home. I also really like this painting because of the use the bright and vibrant colors. The elements and principles of art that were used to create this painting are proportion which was used to put together the man and his cloak, variety and pattern which were used to pick out the colors and shapes to create the artwork, line, shape, form, space, colour, value, and texture which was used to make the hair stand out.

This is my favorite morrisseau style painting that I could find. This is an extremely vivid representation of the habitat and lifestyle of the people, as it depicts the mountains, vehicles, people and animals, and they all have a certain purpose. The person on top of the bird is like a guild, teaching the “passengers” the ways of life. For examples, a school of fish is shown in a river, while there are also canoes right beside them. This shows the connection between the people and the rivers. Norval uses bright and warm colors to set the theme of the painting, and use black to represent connectivity. Norval also uses depth, to show the height of the bird, in contrast to the land that is colored yellow that is behind the bird’s wing. Lastly, the painting off-centers the main focal point, which follow’s the natural eye movements of the reader which is a zig zag.

I like this piece that Norval Morrisseau made most because it's much more simpler than most of his paintings, lots of space around the meese to really focus the attention on the meese, and the illustration of the meese is quite interesting, especially with the colors, it's mostly monochromatic, so many of the colors match up with eachother, then theres some contrast, where you can see the eyes and neck muscles of some sorts are in a bright yellow color, making it look like it's very important to the panting, there are eyes inside of each moose which I presume represents the spirit. theres some texture on the back of the meese, where Norval made a hairy look to replicate the back of the meese, because of it's much more simple design compared to other paintings of Norval's, I find it easier to see the story that is being told. I like how it looks in general, and i think meese, or moose, are cool.

I like this painting because of all of the amazing colours, and flowing vegetation. It has an awesome focal point of a thunderbird/phoenix. It has colour everywhere that really caught my attention. It looks like everything is coming together like a big community. I like how it looks and feels mythical. It uses emphasis right in the middle bringing attention to the bird in the middle with its complementary colours to all of the warm colours around it. The shapes and lines are unique, organic, and lively. There is very little free space on the painting making look very cluttered and busy. The painting is balanced and split down the middle having both sides full of life, colour, and movement. That movement is shown through the flowing organic shapes, and having everything face inwards. There is a lot of variety all over.

The painting bursts with color and energy, almost like it’s alive. At the center, there’s a large bird possibly a thunderbird spreading its wings wide as if it’s protecting or watching over everything beneath it. Around it, human figures and animals are woven together in a really fluid, symbolic way. You see fish, birds, and people all interacting, almost as if they’re part of the same story or spirit world.

I love this drawing by Norval Morrisseau because it's so vibrant and lively. The artist uses rich colors like green, blue, red, and pink. The black outlines make the shapes crisp and expressive, making the drawing seem to glow. I also love that the flowers look unusual, a bit magical. They resemble symbols, which makes the painting special and profound. This drawing evokes a connection to nature, creating a calm yet powerful impression.
